Steve Fossett missing....

I've been to the "ranch" and I actually flew the missing Decathlon while I was there. I met Steve and his wife that weekend, so this is really hitting close to home.

He knows that area very well and I think Branson was correct when he said if there is anyone who could make it through this it's Fossett.

Having said that, the terrain around the Flying M is extremely rugged and unforgiving. Prayers go out to Peggy and everyone else involved.

What makes him supper human. His survival skills are not going to help him much on impact.

ELT didn't go off, Watch didn't go off. Yet to find the airplane. I don't think this will have a good outcome.

I'm glad your not in charge of the search and rescue operation.
 
I'm heading out to the search base at Minden in the morning, will be doing some search flying over the next few days for CAP. I'll report back when/what I can, as I can.

Greetings from the Fossett search base at Minden. Nothing to report that you haven't seen on CNN. I've flown about 10 hrs in the last two days myself. Lots of very rugged terrain in the areas where Fossett was believed to go, very difficult terrain to search. I've spoken at length with the people from the Flying M Ranch, the Hiltons and the Fossetts have invested a small fortune (into the 7-figure range) into the search effort, and in addition to a number of private individuals, we have 12 CAP aircraft here in Minden, another 15 CAP aircraft basing out of Bishop, CA, plus C-130s, UH-60s and OH-58s from the Nevada National Guard. The Hiltons have been shuttling people, parts and equipment around in their Citation, and even used it as an aerial relay for several hours on Tuesday. Today's search operations were grounded due to high winds (for you flatlanders: high winds + mountain flying = bad mojo). We'll get back at it tomorrow, wx permitting.

And darn the rotten luck, but the Reno Air Races are in full swing today up the road, we're working on getting up there for the afternoon.
