Hello. Im new here.

Poor AmericanJetBlue. Still just one post - he's probably been effectively run off now.

He's probably just a kid, doesn't know anything about the airline world, and is flabbergasted about the ruckus he caused.

He's a 3-hour student pilot who wouldn't even be qualified to even think about applying for an air carrier for quite a loooong time. Plenty of time for a metered, relevant education instead of the shotgun blast he got here.

At this stage in his aviation life, there is no way he can discern internet opinion from internet fact. Probably anyone who responds here is an "expert" in his eyes. What he knows is that he thinks flying is cool, and that airline pilots jumped on him about a career choice he isn't remotely ready to make yet.

Just like the Mesa jumpseater I had once who told us her career goal was to work for jetHerpes. You should have seen the F/O wince when she said that.

By the time I got finished with her, she wouldn't touch a jetHerpes application with a 10 foot pole.

At this rate, I'm surprised she touched an airplane with a 10-foot pole. Calm down a little there Sailor.

3. Is American Eagle a good place to start, to eventually reach American?

4. Does American Eagle still give choices of Domiciles? They dont help u relocate if necessary right? Does American make u relocate as well?

I can at least field a couple of your questions.

I have been made to understand from a number of Eagle pilots that flying for Eagle is by no means any kind of "Fast Track" to American. It would appear that they are given no preferential treatment.

Eagle came to our school about 3 weeks back and gave a "presentation"

They are offering the choice of any domicile, and you are correct, they will not relocate you. I'm not sure about the American side.

Did you tell her, her first mistake was flying for MESA?

Actually, she already knew that and she had only been there a couple months.

You know, for a while there I thought you were coming around.

First off, where do you get off by pointing someone to the military without them soliciting you on that subject?

You, of all people should know that people that aren't really into it hurt the ranks. You should have seen the Captains asking to be released before their committment was up, shortly before 9/11. Most of them had to stay in and some had to practically beg to stay in after they had already passed up the promotion process so they could concentrate on their airline careers. People like that only hurt those who serve under them. I want a superior who clearly cares about their job and their subordinates.

And don't get me started on name calling. Your arguement, especially the words you chose, doesn't impress me...and I'm a card-carrying member of ALPA. And before you tell me where I stand in all this, don't forget that I serve too, and on top of that I've been earning wages in my civilian jobs for YEARS that would make a restaurant server cry.

Don't even bother responding to this. I seriously doubt you can come up with anything that makes any sense at all to me. If you're really part of a campaign like that, you're looking in the wrong direction. What you want to do will not fix the industry. There's nobody behind you.

falconvalley, your whole post is nonsensical in addition to being so poorly written no one can follow your "logic."

Perhaps when you have a little more experience in the airline industry you'll actually see the damage pilots who agree to work for places like jetBlue, Virgin, Skybus and GoJet do to all of us.

Get back with us in 10 years or so.

LOLZORZZ!111 I thought I had you there!

I guess me being so new to being a part 121 crewmember, I couldn't possibly understand how name calling and denying jumpseats actually does any good. Have you ever been denied a jumpseat before? It certainly doesn't make one open to suggestions. Nor would it really prevent any airline from operating. Nor would it really bend time and space itself like you wish it would.

There are ways of educating and guiding younglings in an industry and it doesn't involve prejudging and labeling based on what company is printed on someone's ID card. I have personal experience being trained and supervised and guided by people who are like that. I've seen it at more than a couple of the many jobs I've worked over the years. It doesn't matter whether you're an airline pilot or a pizza delivery guy. If you are prejudged, you don't "snap straight and fly right". A line is drawn and a bitter match of wits ensues. Nobody ever really wins. So how exactly does focusing our attention on throwing rotten tomatoes at others really help? Shouldn't we be focusing on guiding people in the right direction rather than saying, "don't go to JimBob Airways, OR ELSE!!!111". That doesn't teach anybody to understand your cause. Believe me, because I'm new I'm paying attention but so far, I'm not seeing anything out of you that looks any different from what I've seen fail to get things done in other industries. It's no different than a Checkairman screaming at an IOE FO and busting an altitude assignment because they weren't paying attention and- creating more problems. You're just succeeding in bringing back memories of me watching people belittled without cause. Lot's of rhetoric and generalization and not much logic. Since we all must know how this works when we get here, do you suggest we even do away with sim training and IOE?

Heck, why don't we just put new hires directly into the airplane on day 1:sarcasm: and yell at them for not knowing the ops frequency.

Folks, it's been proven again and again that those who are in the position of mentoring and "enlightening" who have an even tone and can back up their teaching with positive outcome are well liked and even mimicked. You need to make a choice when faced with someone from a non-union carrier. Say nothing to a newbie and you may let them suffer, without ever knowing how they got themselves into their mess. Heck they might even feel not invited to a union carrier and never move. Or-- you can have enough guts to exchange a few words and then decide if you can you make a difference in someone's life.

See, your problem is that you have one frame of reference...the military. After you've had some experience with getting your salary cut by 30% and losing your retirement because some protoscab outfit can attract pilots (lots of them retired military with U.S. govt. pensions!) then come back and talk about it. As a matter of fact, your reaction tells me that's probably exactly what you are...a jetBlue protoscab who doesn't like having their rock turned over and getting exposed to sunlight.

Welcome to the club Captain Roach.... JC has a great Forum that can help mentor aspiring commercial pilots like ourselves.:)

Well, I must have hit a nerve. There's a reason we don't mess with badgers here in WI. They don't see very well and are vicious. I should know better.

Anyway, welcome to JC Mr. Roach. I apologize for grandstanding and making a ruckus in your thread. I get that way around certain people, but I really mean well and I'm sure Velocipede does, too. I just wonder what decade he thinks this is. Maybe he's forgotten how non-union people think. I haven't. The tactics he has in mind don't work anymore.

It sounds like you really like airplanes and such. It started out that way for me, too. There was a time when I just wanted a chance to peak in the cockpit and say hi to the pilots. You should do ALOT of listening as you progress and you will pick up alot of good advice and sometimes some bad advice. There alot of unhappy people in this industry. Velocipede has one thing right. Decisions you make could be a part of what affects the livelihood of many others.

As a professional, you'll be a member of a relatively small community. Make ALOT of friends. You're gonna need them and someday, they may need you, too.

Velocipede:

If you're bitter about losing your pension, I've got news for you. The airline industry is about the only private entity that still pays one.

I know better than to expect a pension, so I have a Roth and a Traditional IRA that I regularly contribute to. Once I get more money, I'll probably invest in some conservative mutual funds and store some away in CDs. I'm going to stay away from the stock market until things settle down.

An accountant told me that your paycheck should be the first place you make money.
