CRJ-200 Summer Climb Techniques

Keep them comfortable and try to keep the pucker factor low when you fly.
I know a certain Eagle CR7 that didn't win any friends in ORD last week....

Thrust/Weight Wing Loading
CRJ-200 0.336 99.9
CRJ-700 0.338 98.7
A320 0.295 125.7
737-800 0.313 129.6
Ce750 0.374 68.5

The CRJ performs horrible at a 250 kt climb. Per our SOP, I climb out at 250 kts. But I know if its hot and heavy, I'll ditch 250 in the mid to late teens, and get up to 280/290, because it climbs much better.

The key is only about 20pax, no alt fuel required, and new engines- fuel correction of 2.5% or less... Yesterday we did 2.0 through FL230 at 290 or better and 1.0 to Cruise @ FL250 (single pack ops). We then were cruising at 325-330 indicated. Me and the CA were in amazement! We had new engines!

Well, if I had stuck to the 2000 fpm rule going into DSM today, we would have need a 360 or two to get down in time.....

Kell- I was talking 2.0 in the climb! Now on the way down below 10K there is the new CFM debate. The book only says you cannot use a VS of 2.0 below 10- it doesn't say you can't use more of less. In theory you can use 2.5 all day long below 10, just not 2.0.... Gotta love this place!

Hhhmmmm........I've been pretty happy flying with CF34-3B engines. We hold 2,000'/min through the 20's and a solid 1,000'/min through the mid to high 30's. Once in cruise, it's always .83 Mach. Ooooooooo, that's right - I fly a Challenger 604 and right on by all of you guys all day long. :sarcasm: Those climb/cruise #'s you guys are saying have to be painful, especially considering the CRJ overcast the rest of us have to fly through. Sheesh.

The slower we go the more money we make. Which is good, because we don't make a lot of money. I for one am glad Bombardier didn't put bigger engines on the thing.

Oh, and it took us 35 minutes to get from SL to FL300 tonight. We took off from PHL and were over central W. Virginia when we reached it. Ka-ching!

Man, that's quite a climb! Make sure you stay away from the -700 and
-900's cause they climb like rockets and you'll loose your paycheck!:D

I seriously think some of our dispatchers are smoking crack. It was 104 in MEM the other day, and they filed us for FL330 for a 1:24 flight to CLT.

Sea Level, bro!

Heck even SL (well, JFK) to initial TOC (mid to upper 30's) in a heavy 76 is 15 to 20 minutes, even with ATC hold downs and such.

Gotta be "Johnny on the Spot" with the ETA's and rest breaks else you're cutting into your break time when you're flying relief.
