Wx Radar??

Realistically speaking... What are the risks associated with getting Radar beamed on the ground? I know most aircraft use a squat switch to click it off, but if the radar beam was on, what are the risks realistically? How wide is the beam? Is this even an issue with modern radar systems, as opposed to those of the old days?

I've never heard of ANY aircraft radar's that work off a squat switch. That would be nuts, as there would be no way to check the weather on the departure path prior to takeoff!!

In terms of "danger", near zero.

The ERJ radar is disabled from working on the ground until you click one button four times in three seconds. Then it overrides it figuring the pilot knows they are on the runway and need it for departure as opposed to having it on at the gate with ramp crew walking around it.

seagull - most modern biz jets have a squat switch that puts the radar in FSBY mode, and that has to be overridden on the ground...
