Colgan LGA Lines

I think that they are afraid to reveal their plans because so many people joined Colgan primarily because of the live at home concept. They would probably lose a lot of pilots if they moved to a hub system, something they can not afford right now.

Thats exactly what I think. Hub basing would be devastating news to lots of people at the top of the list.

Commuting Clauses & Per Diem

A quick note - I'm not sure how others commuter clauses are written, but here you must be trying to jumpseat from your home to your domicile. If you are in England and miss the commute to work it wouldn't cover you, per your example.

There are some that cover flying in from anywhere though. For instance at my company if you are vacationing in Italy and have two flights that have good enough loads to get you home in time for work and both fill up at the last minute leaving you stranded for a day or two missing the start of your trip, you are covered under the commuter clause.

Flat tire on the drive to the airport? No problem. Save the tow truck/tire repair receipt.

As for the per diem on day trips thing, you ought to be paid per diem even while on airport reserve. Per diem is taxed on day trips but it's still there and covers food for the day. If you are at work and away from home there is no reason you should not get per diem just like you are on a trip.

Vote yes.

Some even cover driving to work.

I don't think that's part of a commuter policy though. We had that long before we had a commuter policy.

Ah I see the difference. We don't need seats available, just scheduled flights, even if they are full. Give a little, take a little :D.

The way our commuter policy reads is as long as you've got two flights trying to get to your domicile, you're covered. I personally know someone who got stuck in AMS, was booked on TWO flights to DTW. One cancelled and the he got bumped off the second one. Commuter policy covered him since he did what he was required to do.

Per diem-Colgan SHOULD be paying you per diem for day trips. No ifs ands or buts. Period. Unless you've got a frig and a microwave in the B1900 and Saabs, it's kinda hard to bring your lunch to work. The only difference between day trips and overnights is that the overnight per diem is not taxable. At least, that's how it SHOULD be. The way Colgan is running it, you don't get per diem at ALL on day trips. That's not right.

Rumots and whatnot from managment. Welcome to PINNACLE airlines. Colgan isn't running the show anymore, so don't beleive jack from managment. If I believed what they told me, we'd have a pilot contract, flying -900s for Delta AND NWA, we'd have about 30 more -200s and be based in LAX/SLC for the Delta flying. NONE of which is true. They'll say whatever it takes to keep ALPA off property there. Phil T even said on the investors conference call he doesn't want ALPA at Colgan. Why? Severely (if not totally) takes away a whipsaw tool.

Outstation basing: thinking the bases won't close, reduce, or displace is setting yourself up for a total fall. Unless you're #1 in seniority, even a minor reduction in staffing at a base is gonna affect you. You could be displaced or land right back on reserve. If the base closes totally, even the #1 guy is gonna be faced with either moving or commuting. Just b/c Colgan hasn't closed a base in a while doesn't mean it will never close. Look at the other regionals in the industry that have closer or shrunk bases. Mesa's TP ops are a prime example of base openings and closures. Comair's MCO base was reduced to the point where only super senior guys were holding it for a while, then it was closed entirely. Now those super senior guys that drove to work are commuting to places like JFK and CVG. Same with the guys based in GSO. Never say never when it comes to base closures. Heck, PCL could EASILY lose its MSP base with Mesaba and Compass ramping up ops.
