100K Baby......w00t!

Dude, minivan's rock hard.....They are great cars for people to have. I don't have one, but..... :D

Keep telling yourself that. Minivan are the death to the male persona. Welcome to mid-life family man.........end-of-the-world-as-I-know-it kinda lifestyle. Minivan's aren't great........they kill any and all parts of a person's independance. So, you're probably right Jim.....if you're married w/ children and think you could do no better than the average American......minivan's are probably where it's at. They offer a certain amount of 'coolness' while still giving the family the room it needs.

Sorry, I don't mean to offend any "family guys" out there. BTW, how does it feel to have to ask to have your 'nuts' for a night out????? j/k Sorry, I just haven't reached that stage in my life......where I need to ask permission to go out for the evening, etc...

Also, for the record.....you shouldn't post after a night out w/ the guys. It'll jade your position on this particular subject. :hiya:

No van here, though. One sedan (Galant), one 4dr Chevy Blazer.....next...maybe a Tahoe, or Suburban.......

That may be, but (as a woman) I've always also kind of thought of them as the end to the FUN persona. Stick a man in there and he's a kept dad. Stick a woman in there and she's no longer a woman - she's a "soccer mom."

Either way. Practical they may be (and I mean no offense, personally, to anyone here who drives a minivan...I'm very blatantly stereotyping, here), but cool they're not. And I hate dealing with them on the road about as much as I hate coming up on a Buick. (It's funny, though - a lot of minivan drivers will race you or be obnoxiously fast as if to convince themselves they're NOT driving a minivan.)

2000 VW Jetta TDi with 112,000. gonna drive this thing until it dies. and just picked up a 99 Chevy S-10 for $1500 with 58,000 on it. couldn't pass it up

'97 Honda Civic with 125,725.

I used to have a VW Passat 5spd for about a month when I first got my license but my dad decided to dump it since it was a waste to put so much money into a 1999 VW with 97K miles.

Haha.....a MINIVAN! Sucker! Bringing home baby next (that part will be cool).......couldn't swing a sport wagon or something, anything other than a minivan????

We needed something that could carry two kiddie car seats, two parents and two grandparents (all grandparents live beyond driving distance). The minivan was the only thing that fit the bill. We initially looked at a Honda Pilot, but figured out that with car seats in the middle row, it would be impossible for grandparents to get into the back.

We got an Odyssey, and it's actually pretty nice. It has pretty good handling and drives like a car (I've driven mid-70's sedans that were much more "boaty"). Plus, it holds a boat-load of stuff.

Still, I loved my Ranger. :(

Wow, that's gonna be quite the load in the van! Good luck with that....you're gonna need it. A couple crying babies and complaining extended family members......I can see it now.:insane:

Sorry about your loss (ranger).

The above is so true, but don't worry Minnesota Flyer, you can get your "coolness" back when the kids get a little older. I had a minivan for a few years when I had to haul the boys and all of their assorted sports and music gear around - Made me feel kind of like a crazed bus/truck driver in a third world country. I had a little Mazda Miata though, to use on those rare occasions when I could escape, and take off my crazed soccer mom hat. It was a happy day when I donated that old mini-van to the local soup kitchen!

Every vehicle I have pushed over a 100,000 I have watched and try to be doing 100mph when I push it over. Usually mine only are a few years old when I have the honor. Don't know if that is good or not. The MB is getting close ;)

About to push 109,000 on my '97 VW Jetta. Can't complain much except that the A/C went out a couple thousand miles ago and I drive this thing around in 100 degree heat!!! AHH..:panic:

Same thing here...except it's a '98. I refilled the a/c last year, it's a pretty easy process. I tried doing it again this year and no dice, I took it in and they said it holds the coolant fine but the compressor is going...$1200 to replace the whole system. Ouch. I'm thinking about a Hyundai with one of those killer 10 year /100,000 mile warranties on 'em.

I think you only need that warranty because you'll use it alot.

Imagine the costs of rental cars when it's constantly in the shop.

Hmmm....I have heard that they have really improved in quality over the years.

All our cars, except for my dads Ranger, are over 100,000:
2000 Subaru Outback:127000 I think
1982 Chevy Custom Deluxe: 129000 I think

I'm 8000 miles shy of 200000 in my '88 Prelude. Looking forward to it. I have a friend who's 13K miles away from breaking 300000 in his '89 BMW 535. :)

If you have to go with a minivan the Odyssey is the way to go. A few years ago (when I was a salesperson) I delivered one to a customer from Phoenix to Kanab, Utah (7hrs) and it was a great drive. The Pilot is a pain with baby seats and IMHO it does not drive as nice as the Ody. Good luck with the new ride.
