Help!!! Need 1900 Sim

OK ok! I start every thread this way but Im new at this!!! My head is spinning... Got a call today (Tues) and I have an interview with Colgan on Thurs. The sim (if I make it that far) will be next week in a 1900. I really want to practice before I do it for real. How does one locate an identical sim reasonably close to home (Maryland)? Any other last min advice for my interview Thurs? I'm studying all the gouges but there is SOOO much to study in 2 days!!! :panic:

If you really want to practice, do the Frasca thing. Even if you could rent a level D sim, you'd be looking at $500+/hr for it.
 
If you know anyone that has the "On TOP" sim software , it has a 1900 , I have it on my sim .............Where so you live?

Maryland! TN isnt that far in an Arrow...... hmmmm. I've never been in a sim before so I'd REALLY feel more comfy if I had some practice and with an instructor!

Yikes! $500/hr.... ummm, no! Dont have that either. Well, keep the suggestions comin' because I've never even cracked my ATP book yet so Im just studying the gouges for the interview. After Thursday's interview I will know if I need to get on a sim ASAP.

The 1900 is basically like a heavy Duchess. They're not going to expect you to be proficient in flying a beech 1900, but basic attitude instrument work, approaches and just an overall peek at your airmanship.
 
I wonder what its like to be doing your apps in a 172, and then bam, you gotta do all that in a much faster plane (well what is the app speed on the 1900, 110?)
 
What my mentor would do for me is just have me fly 140 KIAS approaches in a single engine flight training device.
 
Please don't stress about the 1900. Yes, I know it sounds like a huge obstacle to tackle during the interview, but I was completely surprised when I got in the thing how it all just falls back on basic attitude instrument work. Use the wheel trim, its cessna/piper style. Use their recommended power settings. The guy giving the checkride will give you a minute or two after you level off, to fly towards a VOR or fly a heading, use this time to get comfortable with the power levers.

Get some sim experience in a frasca or FTD, you'll be fine as long as your scan is okay. Do not freak out!

I got hired via the LaGuardia Flight Safety 1900C model sim back in March.

A few tips..

Use/abuse the pilot in the other seat to do as much work as possible. It makes your life easier, and shows you can work as a crew.

Brief it all before you fly..

oh..

I also showed up extra early (like an hour) because I wasn't sure how the expressway traffic was going to be. Since I was in the first set of people to be interviewed, I beat everybody there. I asked real nice-like if I could just look in the sim for a few minutes. One of the techs let me fly it with the motion system off- 'cause that's free. I know that helped me big time.

Oh- if you use the electric trim.. short, three second pushes on the switches. Whether you use the electric or trim wheel, USE THE TRIM.

Hey man- Good luck on the interview. I fly out on Sunday for Saab training class in HEF.

Few words of advice...You waited toooo long to study the ATP stuff. WX, WX, WX, WX, WX, WX, WX, WX. Know your Jepp's cold.

PMDG 1900 Sim on FS2004 helped me prepare. On the sim...relax fly the instruments. Know how to enter a hold within about 10 seconds of assignment. He won't wait for you.

Good luck- let us know the second you find out. If you go for the drug test- you're in VERY good shape!

That's were I will be going if Thursday goes well. What approach did you do? Getting there really early sounds like a great plan!!!! Maybe if I bat my eyelashes they will let me fly it just for practice!!! ;)

First of all, best of luck with your training!!! That's awesome!!! Second, telling me I waited tooooo long to study something I had NO idea I was going to need in a couple days is NOT advice!!! ;) More like a lecture! :laff:

But anyway, I will be sure to let ya know what happens. Studying is going better than I thought. I have all the gouge information covered and tomorrow I will spend my last day reviewing Jepp charts and everything else one last time.

To all that have ever posted an interview gouge, THANK YOU! I can't tell ya how much that has helped and I will gladly return the favor when this is done with.
 
If you get there early enough, you can go in the break room and eat a buncha bagels and cheese danishes......and for the really hard up, soup in a cup is always a winner :nana2:
 
I haven't gotten to the holds yet in my training for IFR, but how do you guys feel about them? according to smittey, 10 seconds, and you better know what you'll be doing. Since I haven't done holds yet, I have no expections of it, but for some reason, they always creep me out (wrong entry etc)

and good luck dude! i'll be watching your posts closely on the situation! :)

Holds take practice, you'll get them. Depends on how your instructor teaches them. There are simple ways (i.e. Looking at the DG and immediately knowing) and there are hard ways (i.e. drawing out the hold).

There seems to be this hold phobia and I had some guys in my sim who were so nervous about the entry.
 
I was concerned about the SIM before the interview also. You will be surprised. Once you sit in the thing and find where things are, it comes pretty natural. The sim will be heavy and pitch sensitive. Use trim, use trim, and use trim.

They are looking for BASICS, and some teamwork and multi-tasking. It is really not bad at all. Good luck with your interview. PM me and I may be able to help you out some.
