SkyWest Lowers mins for 121 pilots; CRJ or equivalent A/C

Bumblebee

Commodore
from the Manager of Crew Resources . . .

Effective immediately, SkyWest will be accepting resumes from pilots who have accumulated 850 hours total time, IF the applicant has acquired at least 200 hours in the CRJ or equivalent aircraft while in 121 operations.
By doing this, it is not our intention to lower our standards. These candidates will be held to the same high standards that are currently in place at SkyWest Airlines. We are simply choosing to recognize the value in previous jet time and are aware of the extensive training programs and flying environment these pilots have gone through and are currently in.

If you meet these qualifications the online system has been set to allow you to apply with lower total time.

Good luck . . . we're all counting on you!:D

What the hell is equivalent supposed to mean?

Does the ERJ count? It has different seating configs
Does the ATR count? It has more seats
Does the B1900 count? It has no autopilot...

Maybe you should write an angry letter and demand and explanation.

I will try to find out. At first glance I would think ERJ, but I understand flying the Bro is as challenging as flying the jet.

Re: SkyWest Lowers mins for 121 pilots; CRJ or equivalent A/

I'm guessing that SkyWest is going on a fishing expediton trip down to Phoenix!;)

Eventually he will learn how to communicate in a mature fashion. ( I hope)

Jesus is coming!!!!

Seriously, this is good news. And I'm checking, and hell hasn't frozen over...yet!

Re: SkyWest Lowers mins for 121 pilots; CRJ or equivalent A/

I'm actually not too sure what to think about this one.

I honestly see it as another tactic of Skywest to pull pilots from union airlines to them. Where else are guys with 800TT going to have 200 hrs of that 800 as RJ equivalent time? Another 121 operator - of course.

More reason for AE, ASA, RAH, MESA, etc guys to jump their union carrier to go and work for a non-union operator.

Should be interesting.

Beat me to my question :). Are the people that already have 200 RJ time furloughs, people who just up and quit others or people who were fired? Isn't it a bad idea to go to a 121 airline and quit 2 months in?

And Minneapolis...and Cincinnati...and Houston...and.....

"Let the others bottom-feed, we're gonna cherry-pick!"

I'm not sure how what I asked was "immature" but perhaps since you folks work for a company out of Utah, you aren't used to people saying "hell" so I'll rephrase:

"How the heck is the determination made of what is an equivalent aircraft and what is not? In the eyes of the FAA, there are no equivalents outside of the CL-65 variants."

Is that better, Francis?

Re: SkyWest Lowers mins for 121 pilots; CRJ or equivalent A/

I'm itching to give out some yeller cards, whose first?

Re: SkyWest Lowers mins for 121 pilots; CRJ or equivalent A/

just out of curiousity, why would ya have 200 hours of equivalent aircraft, and jump ships? not liking where ure at or something I suppose?

oh and what are their 'regular' minimums? special non union hours apply? I kid. I kid :D

Re: SkyWest Lowers mins for 121 pilots; CRJ or equivalent A/

Because you fly the ERJ/CRJ for Mesa (miserable QoL), Eagle (no upgrade...yet) or any other carrier and you just want to live on the west coast.

There's always a million reasons people want to go to different airlines.

Does C-172SP count? It has an autopilot :D

Skyscab, looking to scrape the bottom of the barrel. Congrats.

Well, they're most likely guys who are sick of poor scheduling and lower pay than SKW provides. And, no it is never a bad idea to jump ship if a better offer comes along...UNLESS you go somewhere like Skybus, Virgin or Gojet who YOU KNOW FOR A FACT is damaging the piloting profession.
