I'm studying the FAR/AIM and I keep seeing something like 91.195-91.199 [Reserved]. What does that mean? What is it reserved for?
Well golly, that was a waste of a thread! I figured it was something simple enough but just wanted to actually know.
Did you also happen notice that most of the FAR have odd numbers?Well golly, that was a waste of a thread! I figured it was something simple enough but just wanted to actually know.

Cripes girl! Coulda just asked me...:hiya:![]()
Yes. That's pretty much it. Have you ever tried to put together a system for organizing things and realized later that you have another item that really belongs in a certain spot? If it's a file cabinet, you just insert a file. But in a numerical system, you'd have to do extensive renumbering when you had a few additions. Odd-only helps put some spacers so that, if they come up with a reg that subject-wise belongs somewhere between, say 61.51 and 61.59, there's some place to put it.I did notice that. However not all of them do, which bothered me a little. I'm always curious to know why with those sorts of things but didn't bother me nearly as bad as the whole [Reserved] thing.
So why odds? Is that also so they can leave some (evens) for future use?
On this whole thing of being "bothered" by it, though....![]()

It disturbs me that as a pre-solo, private pilot student you are both reading and analyzing the FARs. It almost sounds like you are interested in aviation, and that you might (gasp!) be actually completing your instructor's assignments, or even worse, studying on your own!![]()
