Delta & SLC!

Then why did Delta just give us 18 planes worth of 50 seat flying out of LAX?

I think you misconstrued what I stated. I didn't say XJTwas undeserving of extra feed. Just that with 50 seat jets on the way out I'm surprised they they're giving you the extra feed, and or not requiring that you guys get 70 seaters, and or just buying/leasing you 70 seaters.

Lastly, to DT and any other DL pilots. Is it true that in the current contract DCI carriers can have as many 70 seaters as DL wants. But are restricted to the number of 76 seaters at DCI?

I heard that they can only get so many 76 seaters for every new main plane added or taken away from the fleet or something like that.

Any truth to this?

Yes and no. They are only allowed 200 70 and/or 76 seaters. They can have unlimited 50 seaters. As far as 76 seaters, they were restricted to a certain number, somewhere around 30 through '08 ( I think,) and then for every new airframe mainline gets, they can convert 3 70's to 76 seaters up to 200 total.

SLC seems to have less traffic in general. Hence it is the key site for the new en route systems that are going to be deployed starting 2009. If something breaks, it won't be as bad as other centers.

Cool. Now with 50 seaters goin' the way of the dinosaur, I wonder if next contract DL will try to get unlimited 70 seaters!

Delta's been using Eagle as a DCI codeshare carrier out of LAX for quite sometime with their SAABs and ERJ's. Used to be able to nonrev until they changed it to ID-90's back in Jan '05. DL wants their own branded DCI flying out of LAX. I see possible expansion to increase regional lift in the west out of LAX to compete with AA/Eagle and SKW/UA. Of course since SkyWest operates for UA out of LAX, they need other DCI carriers to operate those flights since SkyWest can't operate out of competing hubs for two different mainlines. As for giving Xjet 50 a/c worht of flying, I don't see it happening unless DL want to lease them 70+ seat a/c. Look for Pinnacle and Freedom to start flying LAX lines.;) I think Delta's trying to get back into the west coast!

You mean they left?

Yeah, after they took over Western. Yeah they service west coast destinations out of SLC and east coast hubs, but they don't have the presence that UA, Alaska, and AA do. Back when SWA expanded like crazy, they basically pushed USAir and forced others to scale back flights on the west coast. UA tried to counter with United Shuttle, but was scrapped for increased regional service by SkyWest in LAX, SFO, PDX, and SEA.

There ain't no wonder about it. I wouldn't be suprised to see them try and get unlimited 100 seaters. While in the short term, for regional pilots, it would be a boost, for every growth pilot position created at a regional, is one less pilot needed at a mainline. Kinda like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Unfortunately, airline managements are better at playing the divide and conquer game than pilots.

ooh ooh me me! Speaking of rumors I flew with a sim instructor two weeks ago who knows a guy who saw a NWA CRJ900 in St George recently!
Rumors Baby!
