Hey guys -

Just burned through the ATP written at ALL ATPs. Wasn't feeling well but had driven 2 hours to take it, so I rushed and walked out with an 81% two hours after checking in. I am currently a regional 121 pilot, but was wondering if anyone really cares about the score after you pass the actual practical. I heard that Cathay asks for the score... is it worth the trouble to re-take it?
 
Once get get the ATP, no one's going to care.

If someone asked me for my score on the ATP, I'd have to say, "OK! You got me, you got me."
 
Consider the ATP written to be pass/fail.

You passed. Now do the hard part, and get the ATP rating and a type.
 
I got a 70 on mine. That's right. I'm that good. All I got when I went for my ATP/Type ride was a little ribbing from my check airman. I think he said that it was a sign I had to work hard to get that score. They don't care at the regionals. My oral wasn't based on my ATP written score.
 
Unless you plan on working outside of Canada/USA, I don't think anybody really cares. I know for a fact that Cathay Pacific considers your ATP and Instrument written scores, however.
 
My examiner many years ago (6-7).. Said well.. "First time if you fail.. Well you must have been hungover. Second time, probably a slow learner. Third time, never seen that.. " And that was for a failure... Once you do the practical, NOBODY will ever see your score... However, I still did sweat it but my examiner was a FEDEX DC-10 Captain and I am here now so must be true.... :D

I found out today that Cathay doesn't actually care what you got - the Hong Kong Aviation Authority just needs verification that you took the exams for certificate transfer. This was from two current Cathay guys.

I made a 99 on mine and I have to say it's been the highlight of aviation career thus far. I am a 727 load planning genius! :sarcasm:
 
You guys are making me feel better. I was just in SLE and took it. After spending all day cramming with the AllATP's software I took it and thought I was doing well. I got an 84% and I was bummed. I was thinking about taking again, until I was reading this thread.

I think it's a natural response for pilot-types to be disappointed despite how inconsequential it really is. Just think about how stupid the test was anyways. I can't believe how anachronistic and irrelevant some of the questions were. A pass is a pass is a pass, especially if you're doing your ATP ride with your carrier. The check airmen are way too concerned with the standard type-specific oral and company-specific SOP to have time to deal with what has become mere FAA compliance.

Take it again for personal pride only. It has no bearing on what type of pilot you'll be.

For my CAAC license all I had to do was take the English exam-go figure-and present a copy of my FAA licenses and shizam, Chinese Commercial.
 
My buddy took the ATP one-day course and scored a 91% (according to him) and he's not (and I really hate to say this!!!!!!!!) the sharpest tool in the shed.......

That said - nobody has EVER asked me my score(s) on my FAA tests. As long as you have a PASS, you're good to go.
 
Ask jtrain what he got on his CFI written.

Examiner "Let's see your written score....WOAH! Well, it's a pass." :)
 
Having recently passed my ATP ride, I can tell you if you're getting your ATP through a company approved upgrade....it probably doesn't matter what the score was, provided you passed. My experience was that the DE didn't even comment on the score whatsoever. My partner's score was in the mid/high 70's and mine was an 89. At the beginning of the oral, he asked for our paperwork, etc. He reviewed to be certain everything was in order.....and that was it. On with the ride.

No one ever asked to see the results or for my score during my interviews. The only time anyone asked for the results was when I had to turn in my paperwork for the upgrade/type and they didn't say anything about my score. I see it as a check the box kind of deal.
 
Same here. Had it done for the PCL interview, and they just looked to see the paper. I don't think they even looked at the score. They talked more about my score on the interview written than the ATP written.
