Got the call today for an interview in DC with AWAC, and the lady told me if that the flight out of Michigan is an AWAC flight I could be positive space, I was wondering out that differs from another flight on US Air, and could someone explain the non-rev hierarchy? thanks for any info

They can book you positive space on a flight flown by AWAC, but not one by USAirways is what she's trying to tell you.

Ah the benefits of being a wholly owned:)

Positive space means you HAVE to be on the airplane and you can bump revenue passengers off to get on. It's pretty nice. As far as non rev (in the US system anyways) you have SA (space available) and then a number.

SA1 is company business that is not positive space and vacation passes (you get three a year normally)

SA2 I have no clue

SA3 is actual US Airways (plus the wholly owned) employees flying

SA4 is the contract express people (I think)

And it goes on from there all the way down to SA7. There is a whole spreadsheet that explains how each level works.

Wanna hear something seriously effed up? NWA mainline bumps PCL employees off PCL flights. Who the heck negotiated that deal? Oh yeah, management is always positive space, so they don't care.....

AWAC does several DTW - DCA flights. Tell me when you want to go and I can look it up for you so you can go PS. If you are going out of another city other than DTW you are SOL because that's the only city AWAC goes to in Michigan.

FYI once you are an employee traveling under company business you are PS'd on all of US Airways, not just their own birds. This is just for your interview.

Good luck on your interview...did they say how many they were hiring and until when? Thanks!

Hell, the CFO that ran the company bankrupt has positive space, first class/business elite for life even after she left the company. How's that! ;)

One of US's past CEOs who pretty much killed the company (well, he wasn't the first or last to do so) has the same deal. A bunch of captains won't go with him on the flight. I'm not sure how the discipline issue gets worked out, but I guess the guy finally got the point and started flying on another airline.

Unless you're in the United system. I learned the other day that there's something like 3 or 4 levels of positive space at united. The top one is the only one that's a guaranteed seat. The last one is usually the one we get booked on if the scheduler isn't paying attention. At that level, they won't bump paying people to get you on. The middle one will bump paying people, but only if they're standby from another flight.............that was an interesting call to CS.....

Yeah I am not sure about the hiring and until when, I do know they are scrambling to keep up with leaving CA's, and also since I am from MI, it does suck that US only flys into detroit! whats up with that?

joe

It's been a year since I left US, but back then SA2 was a US employee and SA3 was an employee spouse, parent, or retiree.

Doug I thought that during the Ch 11 process Delta was able to dump that benefit she got. I know all the contracts that Leo and the gang got were under the Ch 11 window. Personally the lav is to good of a seat for her.

You know she left Delta and went to Mirant Energy (another Ch 11 company) and her bonus was more than her salary. She got like $600,000 bonus for her direction and guidance during the Ch 11.....go figure...

so since I live in michigan, and US onl flies into detroit, I will only have one option if I get a job at AWAC, and try to commute back to MI with the wife, or whoever...but if I were say with ASA, the delta connection family would bring me many more cities in MI, in which I could fly home, or fly people out of(more chances of getting on a flight) vs. the one city detroit. Based soley on this what would be a better choice for me as far as this is concerned ASA or AWAC? any info or your 2 cents would be appreciated. thanks

I've heard the same about that...I'd doubt there is anything the company can do about it. From what I heard the captains just make sure to find something wrong with the aircraft which will push things back...therefore being a safety issue. From what I hear it isnt hard to find something wrong for that purpose on almost any flight.

strange, at Colgan interviewees where positive space on any usair flight. I guess it has to do with what the airline negotiated with usair.
