Are airline pilot hats in or out?

Some places you are out of uniform if your hat is not on your head .........so , what would it be if you were only wearing your hat ?

No hats here... you'd be out of uniform if you did wear one.

We're lucky just to have epaulets and wings.

I myself, am a little old skool hence, I voted for it.

I think its a great representation of what an airline pilot always has been and always will be.

We're supposed to wear it at Southernjets. In fact, there's a couple chief pilots and check airmen that'll blow a gasket if you don't have it on and are caught.

Love it or hate it, you sign up for whatever the uniform policy is when you accept employment. Doesn't necessarily mean that it shouldn't be modified however.

Eh..

If any of you guys ever find me, laying dead somewhere.. with that hat on.. please, please, whatever you do.. kick that joker ride off the top of my head....

Hat = Ghey

I don't mind it that much. Handy place for a picture of me lady and a great place to hold customs forms.

I will admit.. It would be a great place for a picture of the wife..

If I wore my hat, I would put a pic of her there..

I bought one and didn't even know it was req'd..

I think it'd going up for sale..

Anyone need one? I think it's a 7 5/8's (I got a big ole' wata head)..

We are required to wear them at Comair, unless we are sitting in the terminal or doing a walkaround. They do get pretty hot in the summer time, especially in CVG where the terminal is almost as humid inside than it is outside. I could go without it;)

I didn't realize you were in JFK! Might have to hook up for a trip to the employee cafeteria or a Starbucks man!

I think our manual states they are required when "on the ramp.." that is it.. sorta.. odd..

Yeah you bet! I should be up there in a few weeks or so, I'm still in search for a crashpad. I just got awarded CVG and will transfer in October (hopefully).

I'm just glad they let the ladies wear the 'regular' pilot hats and not those ridiculous Peter Pan hats. Those were some goofy looking hats.

At our company, they are optional. If the Captain wears his, I get mine out of the locker. (To present a uniform appearance)

I know, once again wrong profession but I can kinda relate. Our hats S-U-C-K. They are huge, very uncomfortable, and just get annoying. They do protect you from the sun but make you sweat like crazy. It is game over if some of the enforcers (Sgt, Lt, etc) catch you not wearing one.

Agree with bumblee, if the captain wears his, I do as well. I wear mine 90% of the time during winter though.

Not sure what I will do this winter with no longer having to do walk arounds all time time :)
