My old job

That's way too much fun. :) How it feels to fly those big choppers? I'd feel like clipping something off every time I turn :D

When we were out on deployment doing the "starboard D" the pilots would let one us sit up front for some stick time. It's a lot harder than flying fixed wing. We were allowed to climb, descend, turns, and sometimes a hover. Tamdem rotor helos are a completely different animal from the tail rotor helos.

That's awesome you guys were able to do that! Our regs wouldn't allow it... but I always would have loved to give some stick time to the crew dawgs.

Watching those videos really makes me miss flying big helos...

They can out manuever your big beastie! I'd be affraid to do some of the maneuver they did in a 47.

Oh rule's, what rules? Yeah we have the same rules, but when you're out in the middle of the Atlantic miles from home the rules get sort of blurry.;)

We had to fly with the HAC(Head A/C Commander) if we did, and it usually was the Det OIC or AOIC who were an O-4 and a senior O-3.

Yeah, I forgot - we could do incentive rides for the crew dawgs - but the Standardization Instructor Pilot (SIP) had to be flying. Interestingly enough, we had the same rules for flying generals in the front seat, even if they were rated pilots. Our flight regs specify a "special" category for rated pilots above O-6. :crazy:

Pshhsh whatever!:p Only Marines ground taxi and do running takeoffs. They're crazy, especially how they do they're mx. "Blades are out of whack, psshh, we can fly it! We'll have to use the whole deck to pick up speed, we can still land on the deck in case we can't get enough lift!" Yeah we knew we were going to get a rescue when we heard that preflight. Man they'd even hook up the hydraulic servicing unit to the #2 hydraulic system! Crazy!:insane:
