Does anyone know anything about Caribbean Star Airlines?

I flew on them from San Juan to St. Lucia on my honeymoon, VERY nice Airline to fly on. They operate Dash 8-300's. On their website it appears as though they are merging with Liat Airlines. I wonder what their pay scale/bases/minimums are. Can't find any info anywhere.

CStar is owned by Texas billionaire R. Allen Stanford's group. They are merging with LIAT, as you said, and the new entity will be called LIAT Star of the Caribbean. As for pay scales, I'm not sure. I can find out for you and get back to you. I will say, though, that once the new entity begins, it'll be new pay scales for the pilots and FA's.

dont know much about them but I had a roomate in SJU who was a Fo for "Caribben sun airlines" sister company also a fleet of Dash-8 based in SJU. He was really happy there a first year fo was making around 28k. But after finished the IOE three months later the company went "Bankruptcy" lot of pilots Furloughed from major airlines were working there at that moment.

The only thing I know about caribbean star is founded by allen stanford their based in Antigua and Barbuda. Im not sure if they hire us citizen pilots. You can visit their websites for more info. I hope that helps.

There is a member on here who flew for them....

That info is difficult to find, I was searching for hours to find BWIA's. They merged to, now they are Carribean Airlines.

BWIA didn't merge with anyone. Actually, they were shut down by the government of Trinidad and Tobago on Dec. 31st, and Caribbean Airlines started up in it's place on January 1st.

Danny_PR is right about CStar not hiring US citizens. You'd have to be a CARICOM national, since CStar is based in Antigua. For the most part, unless you are planning to work for an airline based in SJU (such as American Eagle), you'd need to be a CARICOM national, and would have to convert your licenses to the local CAA.

I didn't know about BWIA! What happened, and why were they shut down? What happened to all the employees?

Thanks a lot for the information! My wife wanted me to look into it, because she'd love to live down there. Silly girl. :insane:

It would be nice, but I wouldn't work for the Eagle operation out of there. I flew them coming back, and I gotta tell you - I was disappointed. We were delayed 1hr and 20mins leaving SLU because the FO disappearing for 45mins. Because of that, we missed our connection in SJU to EWR. Soo...American put us up in a hotel in San Juan for the night and we couldn't get home until late friday night. Well I had a 6:30 show up in ALB Saturday morning. Needless to say, 4hrs of sleep later I was at work drinking some serious star bucks. :D

Why did the government shut them down?

Why did the government shut them down?
The big airlines in the eastern Caribbean (BWIA and Air Jamaica) have been losing money for years. JM is still alive, though costing the Jamaican government a lot of money every year. After reviewing their options, BWIA was shut down and had a replacement (it was actually a smooth transition) in order to get rid of the debt and start with a much better balance sheet, new aircraft leases could be arranged, etc.

BWIA had 1200 employess toward the end. Many of them took severance packages and then those who wanted to work for Caribbean Airlines had to reapply. So far, from what I'm hearing, they're doing very well these days.

Where does she want to live? The Caribbean is very nice (got heritage down there):)

I wonder what happened to that FO who disappeared for 45 minutes.:insane:

Sorry to hear about your eagle experience. I was based down there with them this past year. SJU actually has the best on time performance out of any eagle base i think its about 90-95% your usually never delayed, of course you don't deal with much weather and no ATC delays. If you are really considering moving down to the islands I would reconsider Eagle. The operation down there is kind of crappy I'll agree, but its still a good job to have down there. If you and your wife got sick of it you still have your seniority with eagle. You can transfer to any base back in the states and wouldn't have to look for another job, start at first year pay again, probation, etc.. I spent a year down there commuting to JFK and a year was just about enough for me, but if your willing to move down there with your wife, you'll have a blast. I kick myself in the ass for not staying down there on my days off and enjoying it more.

Just a thought.

Adam, you're out of there already?! That was fast! Where are you based now? (and I'm assuming you're not in the ATR anymore)

I'm based out of LGA in the EMJ. Although I'm starting to feel like I'm based in RDU spending my 3rd night in a row here.
