You will be sorry you have picked ATP. The quoted time they give you to for the program is not true i studied and had all of my writtens done before i started the program and never finished on time.Planes were junk and always broke. 2 months after i started the program i had a checkride scheduled for the day i was supposed to fly back to New york for my sisters wedding. Even though i told them i would be going back for 2 days and that everybody else got a week off before starting the ACPP. Dave Shiffman the so called station manger called Jim Korzski in JAX and said i was dictating the program beacuse i was leaving for 2 days to go to my sisters wedding and they terminated me from the program. Be very very careful of what contracts you sign 14,000 later and no private pilots license.

How long ago was this? I spoke w/ several people who have come through the program in the past 6 months w/ no complaints...Shiffman no longer runs the site. They told me to expect to be working all 60 days of the PPL program so I'll plan on that being true (i.e. no trips during that time). Anyway, I appreciate your response but feel confident in my decision.

bbjpilot I'm sorry for your ordeal. It sounds like somewhere communication broke down etween you and atp and resulted in an unfortunate situation.

Hey jac when you starting? We just sent 3 instructors to phx so it must be busy down there.

Very unfortunate but i have been in talks with numerous individuals that have had a similar experience and we are ready to take action.

Anyway's wish you the best of luck instructing with them.

This happened in May of 06. Not a problem just thought i would give you my insight on ATP. It seems you have your mind made up and are confident in your descision. I wish you the best of luck in your training. Cross countries to Pinal KMZJ are really cool. See alot of aircraft i nthe desert and watch out for Picaho Peak the mountain o nthe way down there.

Well there are 10 sides to every story. No one gets kicked out of the program for a 2 day break.

Study hard and you'll do fine.

Get your facts straight buddy before you open your mouth again . I did not discourage jmc to do his training there i simply offered him my experience. Everybody makes there own decisions based on what they feel is right and to that I wished jac good luck on his training and endeavors.

Yes that is exactly what happened I got my ticket on priceline and you can not change the dates on tickets you bid online or else you loose the whole ticket. I was told during training that we could take an optional week off before the ACPP if we shall wished too. So i planned my two days off to go up to NY for the wedding and my checkride was scheduled for that day( which was 3 weeks after the promised compleation date for the PPL. Due to maintenance being down all the time and Shiffman running that branch. Thats the whole story with nothing hidden. I 'am a man of my word and i have nothing to hide.

I' am done with this thread. jac keep us posted and would love to hear your cross country trip reports. Have fun and enjoy

Get your facts straight buddy before you open your mouth again. I didn't say you were lying, I said there are 10 sides to every story.

B.S. You didn't get terminated for taking two days off, there is more to your story. Let me guess, you are an a$$ and your attitude sucks?

I don't think bbjpilot is trying to stir the pot... he told his story... he's been cordial up until the point he thought he was being attacked...

Although, bbj... I didn't seen clocks post as an attack on you personally... more of a comment on just about everything in life... (many sides to stories.), and I'm thinking that it may have been a better idea to have posted your story in a thread dedicated to just that, instead of raining on jac's parade in this thread. Making a post like that in someone's "happy" thread is a sure fire way to get many negative comments back quick. (JC.com rule #1656.1)

Regardless... please remember the original intention of this post... jac is excited and waiting patiently at home for his HUGE friggin' box 'o books! ;)

Anyways CaptainBob sorry about that thought I was being attacked personally , i' am a pretty civilized person and do not intentionally try to stir up anything. Only defend myself if being attacked first. This is my last comment in this post, all other comments directed at me will be ignored so it does not turn into a 10 page post of useless information and take away from the main purpose of this post. Captain BOb thank you for the advice before posting on someones "happy thread" again i will take your advice and information before posting on someones again.

To Clocks I' am truly sorry for taking your comment as a personal attack and then responding in the way i did. it was wrong and to that i apologize to you.

To jac sorry about hijacking your thread.

bbj,

No reason to apologize to me... I'm just a one of the old coots around here... ;)

I really think (hope) that there won't be any more negative comments toward you or your experience. :)

So... no need to censor yourself from this or any other forum around here.

Thanks for being a part of the forums!!

No sweat...I just took it as you trying to give me a heads up about a bad situation - no need to apologize for that. This is why I love this site - even though we may all respond differently or say things differently, for the most part we're just trying to help someone else out...

Thanks for the support everyone, will continue to wait (impatiently  ) and hit the books as soon as I get 'em...

Sucks that it turned out that way for ya. For the vast majority, it's not that way - seems like Mr Shiff had a vendetta out for ya!

For the most part, for ANYONE, considering ATP. You really can't plan on taking any break whatsoever. That being said, you definately do get a couple of days off here and there, maybe even a week or two if weather becomes an issue - but you don't have enough certainty to make a ticket purchase well ahead in time to save you money. I worked @ Admin for a little over 2 months, and I remember it happening to 3 students. Same scenario for each - they SHOULD have been done by a certain date - so they bought tickets home. When the time came, there was a delay (imagine that in aviation) and they got into it with Dispatch/ ATP.

As far as the timing goes - some people finish the private program in a month or less, sometimes it gets to 2.5 months... weather and plane situations has a lot to do with and as you can imagine is a very flippant situation....

That being said.... it took ATP 3.5 months to finish my 90 day program up.... due to scheduling issues, and weather. Dispatch has a nicer half, and another half that is hard to deal with as a person, and admin is usually to busy to make everyone happy all the time. All in all, the consensus seems to be that ATP provides you with everything you need to get your ratings, but a lot of it depends on your effort as well. Patience is a virtue I suppose!

jac, just keep focused, and you'll be fine in the program. Knock out all of the writtens ahead of time if possible - it makes life a LITTLE less stressful for the 3 month period. Also, even though some locations teach you off a gouge, and some instructors want you to be thoroughly proficient(myself included)... absorb EVERYTHING you possibly can and don't just study to pass checkrides. There's plenty of ATP instructors on this board, we just gotta be as anonymous as possible ( You can imagine why;)) All of us are happy to help.
