Video of passenger confronting Delta 5635 pilots last week

Re: Video of passenger confronting Delta 5635 pilots last we

BTW, the video is on CNN's main page.

Yeah, I saw that...complete with an interview of the dude who took the video. Funny how when the publicity is negative, they call it "Comair," but when it's good they call it "Delta."

Re: Video of passenger confronting Delta 5635 pilots last we

I may not agree with the pax’s methods but I must admit I probably would have demanded to speak with the CA or at least the FO as well, but I would have asked for the purser to ask the CA/FO to come to my seat. The last thing you want is a “he stormed the cockpit” situation – especially if things get heated as they tend to in situations like these.

Anyway, I think the pilot did a piss poor job at dealing with the pax explaining the situation. He could have very easily turned the tables by just telling the pax what was going on and what the crew was planning or waiting for. Perhaps even asked the pax for a suggestion and maybe even entrained the suggestion to the extent possible for the situation...but as someone already said, it’s easy to play Monday morning QB.

Re: Video of passenger confronting Delta 5635 pilots last we

Or he could have also have been quite aggravated that the FA let said pax come all the way up to the cockpit to pi$$ and moan. Aggravated pax or not, that exchange should not have taken place in/at/near the cockpit. Bad on the CA for letting that slide. Potential security issue.

Re: Video of passenger confronting Delta 5635 pilots last we

So why in the world were the passengers kept on the aircraft...for 4 hours!?!

Something doesn't add up here.
Comair doesn't run the show up in JFK, DL does. They flight was boarded and were waiting to push back, but then they got a ground stop. They waited for a while then the ramp closed. With the ramp closed no one is allowed on the ramp, so they had to keep them on the plane. With the APU inop they were on GPU and no a/c cart. The crew requested an a/c cart but DL could get them one due to the ramp closure. Being out at the gate on the ramp just sucks if the ramp closes there's no jetways to protect passengers. The captain called our chief pilot, dispatch, the SOCC manager asking for help to get everyone off the plane after DL ops in JFK kept telling them to keep them onboard again to the ramp closure. Finally after four hours and constant bugging by the crew and a call to the port authority police, CS finally came out with the cops and got everyone off the aircraft. Like I said previously the CA could have handled the situation a lot better, by not getting into an argument with this guy who's video taping the whole thing and lettin the passengers know what's going on and what the crew is doing to alleviate the problem. So until our mx base in JFK and BOS finally open and we get more parts staged up there, we're just going to have to keep defering the customer service items (APU, PACS, an so forth).

Re: Video of passenger confronting Delta 5635 pilots last we

Not sure how they do it in JFK but at my station CA has a decent sized operation. All decisions that are made are made by CA themselves. They have their OWN operations department seperate from DL's. They have their OWN ground equipment, and their OWN people who make those decisions....good or bad. They don't have to ask "dad" if they can deplane people or reboard or anything of that nature. Yes tkting and all that is done by DL as well as bookings and checkin, but operationally speaking it's all on them. Again this is the way it is at my station, I can't speak for JFK or anywhere else.

In JFK we don't have our own OPS and our own ACS. Delta tells us where and when to fly, that Delta will handle goround operations and ticketing just like they did to ASA in ATL. DL handles there own first then we come second. I would give more than anything to have our own CS agents and equipment and operations in JFK and BOS. We're finally getting a mx base there, so we can get planes fixed faster to cut down on delays and cancellations.

Re: Video of passenger confronting Delta 5635 pilots last we

How great would it be if this guy some how ended up on the no-fly list?

How are things working out in the ATL with DL running ramp? I've not been though there since the change. Any better?
I'd like to see JFK get better too-but i'm definitely not holding my breath for it, the place can be a real cluster ....

That would be hilarious!!!!!

Then imagine TSA doing searches every time on this guy for his little cameras.....hahahahah.

Those are called dominoes to a REALLY bad situation.

One can only do so much calling. Sorry but the Captain should have declared a medical emergency. End of situation and the Delta name isn't on the national news in a negative way.

Re: Video of passenger confronting Delta 5635 pilots last we

With the amount of rudeness, sarcasm, and personal attacks that quickly manifest on this and other internet boards, it is amazing that a good percentage of people here blame the guy. The camera thing is definitely annoying, but this guy actually remained tame. Considering this was NYC, I am surprised he was the only one. I would have expected a passenger plane full of NYC Nuns to be getting upset.

IMHO, its unbelievable that this can go on.

Why can't they get a bus out to the airplane, and bus the pasengers back to the gate? Couldn't the CA request this?

Couldn't the CA, considering an INFANT was on board, declare an emergency?

Re: Video of passenger confronting Delta 5635 pilots last we

That is exactly what I would have done.

As a FO we almost declared a few medical emergencies because stations were jerking around with gate space after having people in an airplane for close to three hours with no bathroom. The stations change their tune quite quickly when you tell them get me a gate or be prepared to accommodate an emergency aircraft CAUSED by the station inadequacies.

Re: Video of passenger confronting Delta 5635 pilots last we

That guy was right to do what he did, and the captain could have done a better job putting him more fully in the picture, but I think 4 hours is too long, if you've gone no where after about 2.5 hours then go back to the gate. I'd have flipped well before 4 hours, and that guy did exactly the right thing. Comair should be ashamed that they couldn't make a sensible, well-managed decision on this situation.... shame on them. From what I can see Comair couldn't organise a beer party in a brewery!

Re: Video of passenger confronting Delta 5635 pilots last we

Aww, come on folks!

Instead of "OMG! I'm not flying for Comair!" why not rise to the occasion and figure out what you'd do differently and find out if what you'd do is actually feasible.

Every profession has it's challenges. The ones that succeed are the ones that meet and overcome those challenges. The others, well, they just run from safe haven to safe haven and like to live in a world of rounded off corners, dull butter knives and NetNanny on all of their computers.

Get yer "pimp hand" back folks!

Good on 'ya, Doug.

That's part of the challenge of the job...making something out of tough situations. Some situations are impossible...but with a little human touch you can make something happen. And guess what...the automation can't do that!

Some guys want to hole themselves up in the cockpit and drink coffee. Be better than that.

Re: Video of passenger confronting Delta 5635 pilots last we

I just want to fly airplanes and look at my epaulets in the reflection of the sunshade, B767Driver!

Problem-solving? If it ain't in the QRH, it ain't a problem, right? :)

Re: Video of passenger confronting Delta 5635 pilots last we

So here I sit in the block at DCA ground stopped. Its been 35 minutes and tower has no idea of when the update will be. Any bets on how long it will be until the passengers start to revolt?treo is good
