Colgan = Da awesome!

Nevermind the corporate pilot who is passed over for promotion on account of his brown-nosing co-workers. I'm glad I work in an environment where I don't feel the need to compete with my co-workers on ways to kiss the bosses' asses in order to get a better raise than the next guy.

I think we could *all* agree there are positives and negatives to both situations.

Communism in *theory* was a good plan. In practice? Horrible.

The best thing to do on your days off is NEVER-EVER-EVER answer any phone calls unless you know who it is...LGA is a pain in the ass a good part of the time, but it is a money maker...My biggest fear is being on the "point" and getting stuck on the gate waiting to push for SPOT 23, and after that fiasco the friggin VCM craps out and the High-blowers are a mere wisp of a breeze and shoot I drank a 20 oz. coffee and by the time we get to ACK I gotta pee so bad that the F/O has to taxi so I can keep my legs crossed! Oh and lets not forget going into LGA in the middle of a "push" and S-turning along Long Island Sound getting TAs from all the VFR traffic! But, I do LOVE $1.00 employee coffee at Dunkin Donuts!

Airdale whats up buddy? What are you doing flying a real man's plane? You have to come fly the RJ with me and be a sally! So how are things over at Colgan? Rumor I here is that your out-station bases are going away, and they will open LGA,IAD,BOS,IAH,EWR?????? Thats the word..... Great to hear about your line. I'm on RESV in DTW but flying all the time.
Glad you like it!

I've heard something similar about the Colgan bases.

Outstation basing IS going away at Colgan. Pinnacle is calling the shots and they don't want it. They are taking over accounting and when we filed with the NMB, it wasn't Colgan lawyers that responded, but Pinnacle lawyers.

Whazzzuppp Dude!!!! My very FIRST student pilot right here! How ya doin over there pushin buttons!! :p

Things at Colgan aren't bad bud. I flew 92hrs last month and was originally blocked for 95 this month, but had a maintenance issue, then got put on Reserve because of IOE taking my line. No big deal though. Lots of rumors going around though, and from what I hear 3 Beech's are leaving us very shortly, and in less then 6 months I should be receiving word about going to the Q400 out of EWR! :nana2:

Now if we can just unite under ALPA and get a better pay scale for the Q400...things will definitely kick a$$ here!

Who cares about pay rates when they can do that crap to you guys??

:laff: I know what you're saying. I'm very new to all of this, so until recent I hadn't been aware that stuff like that was actually screwed up.

My attitude is pretty much soak everything up like a sponge, learn as much as I can and decide for myself what needs to be changed.

Being pulled off of a 95hr line and put on reserve, all this with less then 24hrs notice - is bull****. But at the same time, the company HAS responded well to requests that I've made for time off to accomodate my wedding/honey moon.

A lot of things need to change here - and I'm sure they will with ALPA.

I had a very similar situation several months ago. I was #1 FO in base and had a great line. As a result, I was also paired w/ the #1 Capt....who, incidently, is also a check airman. Well, needless to say, I got bumped from 3 of my 4 pairings for the month because of IOE. As a result, I was left to scramble for flying. One of the weeks, I wound up doing hot reserve (ready reserve) at our HQ. So, I figured I'd go have a chat w/ the Cheif Pilot and bring up the fact that I got hosed for the month and wound up losing several hundred dollars by getting bumped from my original schedule. His response was to tell me that it's not their problem since they're willing to pay me a guarantee of 75 hours even if I don't fly that much. So, if I was originally scheduled for 95 and only got 60 hours , I was "making out in the deal since they were going to pay me for an extra 15 hours." I was shocked! Um, how am I making out by losing 20 hours of pay?????? :insane: In fact, I have never flown less than 75 hours in a month with the exception of my very first month on line (partial month) and the month they pulled me from my schedule.

That is certainly something that needs to be changed....among a couple other huge issues. If you get bumped from your original pairing, you should be paid for it regardless! It's not my fault that being a senior FO pairs me w/ check airmen. WTF, over? After that, I purposely bid away from this particular guy at the expense of bidding away from the good lines. Seniority is not something that should be punished!

You guys would die and go to heaven here. I've had trips dropped for OE then picked up trips on the tradeboard or in open time. Full pay for the dropped pairing and then pay for the trip I did on top of it.

The issue is upgrade is around 36 months, so no quick upgrade here. For me, it's OK, as long as the list keeps moving, because I can't stand to get screwed. It's one of my pet peeves.

The same deal here. Plus, if you get displaced from your pairing and then pick up a trip on the same day that you could have completed if you hadn't been displaced, you get paid time and a half.

So if you get displaced from your local flying between 0515-1430 and then pick up a trip that starts at 1600 that day, you get paid for your displaced trip and then get paid time and a half for the one you picked up.

Right, that's EXACTLY the way it should be! Good for you guys, I'm glad to hear someone is getting what they deserve in this situation. Additionally, more power to you to help out the company since you'll be helping yourself as well. That is one issue that really burns me up about this 'second-tier' organization where I work!

At PCL, if you get bought off for IOE, you're more or less on reserve. The difference is, you're only required to answer your phone 90 minutes prior up to your original show time. No call, you get paid for what you were supposed to fly. You CAN pick up open time to sorta get more control, but it's not at time and a half. Unless we're short staffed, open time is at straight pay anyway, it's just over guarantee. We're trying to get open time paid at 150% all the time with the new contract, though.

What you CAN do if you get bought off for IOE is pick up open time on your days off. Let's say you have a four day trip, and the last two days were bought off for IOE. Well, take the two days you have off before the trip starts, pick up some open time (currently paid at 150% since we don't have hardly anyone for either seat) and make it where they CAN'T use you on the days you were bought off due to a 30/7 issue. Then you get paid for the 150% open time, the time you flew AND the two days you were bought off. Not that I would know anything about gaming the system this way. :)

I know they already got rid of one Beech and I heard they will all be gone within a year or so. But, you would have to believe they would have to at least have a handful for some of the bases that can't get the SAAB 340 just yet.

Any idea on a timeframe for when Colgan starts the hub basing in the NE? I know IAH is already like this and the Q400 out of EWR will be like this too.

What is the likelyhood of being based in KALB when working for colgan? For those of you based at KALB, I'd trade a dinner or three for some conversation and assistance with some decisions i need to make.

Thanks,

Cerelis
