Pinnacle???

I understand the concern about where to get some glass cockpit training and jet training courses. They are useful but as Steve C said flying experience is the biggest factor. Learning the glass cockpit and autopilot systems are not that trciky. It just invovles some good reading on the systems and some practice in a sim at whatever airline or company you get hired by.If you dont want to wait for that training and go ahead and get some training, you can get that training at major universities such as UND,EMRU,Purdue,OSU, and a few others. If you cannot afford the 141 Flight universities then you can always pay to go to Flight Safety Interantional if you are that worried about getting a experience and knowledge level in glass cockpits. Personally at the flight school were I am at we have glass cockpit aircraft and well the transition is not as bad as most think. I do how ever still prefer steam gauges.

But anyway those schools are actual universities that provide more than just a flight certificate. Jet U is a pilot factory that takes some one from 0 time to commercial pilot in 9 months. That is a short amount of time to get that kind of athuority and will always bring up the question of pilot safety because it does not matter how safe the pilot might think he or she if the expereicne level is very minimal. If the pilot had been flying for a few years and then got the commercial then the pilot would have a better experience level and provide a safer flight than the fresh rookie who got there certifcate without knowing the regs 9 months ago. Also with Jet U getting a guareenteeed job means diddly squat. Taking a guareentee like that is risky and also brings up the question are you paying for yourelf to get a job? Jet U may have some good instructors but you still can not overlook the fact that they are bringing in people who have no time to commercial pilot standard in 9 months and three months later have a guy ready to fly a CRJ-200? That in its self sounds dangerous and well it does not sit well with alot of people.

If you guys are offended by what I am saying then I am sorry. Pinnacle may like ya but the rest of industry may think other wise because alot of people went the traditional way by flight instructing and busting there ba**s to get ther job at a airline. Those people are always gonna give people at places like Jet U a hard time. Plus you gain other experiences when you do fly from places that are outside of Florida and those places offer unique and effective pilot skill and control. For instance like flying in snow storms and LIFR. you generally do not get those condition in FL yet you will be flying in that kind of weather quite often at Pinnacle and flying in that weather requires special consideration and well the FTD no matter how good it is still cant replace the real thing. Also the flight instructing helps you in providing a basis of crew coordination and cockpit management.

They may have a nice "campus" and have some airplanes that are definently cool but the overall deal is that Jet U is not the best thing since sliced bread and when you dig down into it and understand why pilots mostly do not care for this kind of institution then you will understand, I am sorry if I am offending anyone who thinks I am wrong I am just doing things the right way when I earned all of my certs through sweat and blood and by working my ba**s off.

P.S. Tuckster....UND i know for sure since that is my school and i am not sure with some other but i am sure they do as well have the CRJ-200 VFD Sim in which you have a class on it including systems, flows, flight operations, and a FTD Sim. Just letting ya know. You can get the VFD Sim from a company called AeroSim Inc. for most any aircraft in the transport category fleet and also get a systems manual and Checklist though it may not help you much since each companies checklist and flows are different. Just letting ya know buddy. :)

Jet U is not the only school that takes you from zero time to Comm/Inst/ME in just 9 months. That's the minimum time. Realisitically, it will be more.

ATPs does the same thing, where you come in with just a Private and about 85 hours, and in 90 days they will take you through your instrument, commercial single/multi, and CFIs.

Accelerated training is everywhere, you just have to look.

I don't agree with your comment that a guy flying only 9-12 months has less experience than a guy flying for, say, 5 years, if both have the same flight time. If both have 1000 hours total time, I'd argue they have relatively the same level of flight experience.

The reason Jet U can provide that type of training is all due to their instructors. Most are current line pilots with different airlines (Airtran, UPS, and Pinnacle to name a few), and there are a few retired airline pilots.

You may not agree with Jet U, but it's no reason to provide false claims (eg, "JET U doesnt get any good instructors")

Well Cherroke Cruiser you go get a job coming from Jet U and then when you are in a airline not affliated with Jet U, you come and tell me I am wrong. then I will retract my statements.

The furthest I'm looking 'down the road' is still Pinnacle Airlines, so I can return to and stay in Michigan. I plan on staying at Pinnacle for a while.

You need to retract certain statements you've currently made about Jet U that are simply false, namely, the quality of the instructors at Jet U. Sitting in North Dakota, how would you know the quality of instructors in Fort Lauderdale?

All JetU is, is an really freaking expensive cliff notes book on the Pinnacle ground school and a lot of shady advertising saying why gullible pilots should go there.

because they have been using our CRJ-200 Sim and well UND peeps here have talked about the JET U and its not so great idea. They know how to make money thats for sure but whats funny is all of my certs, PVT, Commercial ASEL, AMEL, Instrument, CFI , CFII and my bachelors degree in science are still cheaper than Jet U by about 20 grand and I also get a CRJ-200 Training course a basic Ground School for it with 12 hour Sim Time. So you tell me why i should retract the statements. I know I may not be the oldest pilot on this forum but I certainly do know that alot of pilots on this forum agree on one thing. JET U, GIA, and ATP dont make you earn you certs they give them to you by holding your hand all the way. And they give you "interview" that practically gives you a job offer is crap. So like I said Go and apply to a airline not affliated with Jet U and tell me how it goes. because you should have confidence in your training right? I mean Jet U should be teaching you how to fly in real world and not 9E.

By the way do you hold a CFI, CFII, or even a Commercial cert and have flow for hire?

Everyone is currently using the sim in FXE. Don't know when Jet U was up at UND. "Not so great idea" is your mentality to this place, so that's fine, but don't let that force you to make inaccurate statements about Jet U and its instructors.

Because your statements regarding the instructors at Jet U are inaccurate. That's what I wanted you to retract.

I guess so. But keep in mind some airline pilots say no to Jet U, others from Airtran, UPS, and Pinnacle, teach at Jet U.

And they give you "interview" that practically gives you a job offer is crap. So like I said Go and apply to a airline not affliated with Jet U and tell me how it goes.

You still have to pass the interview. All you get is the interview itself... it's up to YOU to pass the ATP written eval, HR interview, Tech interview, and sim eval. Only if you pass all four do you get a job offer.

because you should have confidence in your training right? I mean Jet U should be teaching you how to fly in real world and not 9E.

The only thing about 9E is that it teaches you 9E's profiles, flows, procedures, systems, etc. Pilots have been hired at PSA from Jet U. So the training is 9E specific, but also generic to help you at any regional you go.

The flight school is not related to the CRJ/9E program. The flight school gets pilots their PVT, Inst, Comm sing/me ratings. And yes, you flyi "in the real world" during this portion.

By the way do you hold a CFI, CFII, or even a Commercial cert and have flow for hire?

Hold Comm/Inst/ME but no CFIs. Currently in attendance at the place you are making inaccurate statements about, due largely to your bias/hatred of that place. I hate many places, but it doesn't mean I go out and make false statements about it.

Well good luck to you, just remember that Jet U is gonna fail ya in the end. And if you wanna compare difference in experience come up here to nodak and see what we deal with everyday. It gives you a taste of what you are gonna get if you go to pinnacle. If you think i am making inaccurate statements well i am not. Jet U paid UND about 500,000 dollars to use our sim because they didnt have one and well we are glad they are gone because we listened in on some of there sims and well you get what you pay for. I know that you are prolly very new to flying since probably 9 months or so ago you started flying but heres the real deal very few places will hire you. If you stay with 9E(assuming you get hired and pass ground school and IOE) dont ever leave because you will not get a warm recpetion from most people and thats that. You can look at all of the comments posted by others about Jet U and they are all about the same.
The place is a joke and the quality of training is probably not up to what most would consider safe pilot decision making skill building. You will recieve no sympathy from me and well since your attitude on how the biz really works sucks(by the way my family been doing it since the 50's so i have a little insight on how things work) and two you apparent disregard to going to another airline to apply for other than the one associated by Jet U tends me to believe that you dont think you could apply to them for fear of not even being given an interview.

-Farva
P.S. when Jet U was up here we had a huge laugh about the place just because they try to sell people the idea of becoming Airline pilots in a year and well thats jsut outright dangerous and really almost impossible to happen because on year of training is not going to give you the ability to fly a jet and for the few that do make it they will be hated on the line pretty bad. Thats life for a Jet U pilot, good luck with that, and like i said when you go to another airline and pass there ground school and IOE and you send me that info I will retract my statement becasue I am willing to bet the farm.

Well good luck to you
Thanks for the good luck

just remember that Jet U is gonna fail ya in the end.
Um, no. More on this down a few paragraphs, keep reading.

And if you wanna compare difference in experience come up here to nodak and see what we deal with everyday.

Nodak? LOL! I group UND and ERAU as the same. I would never go to a aviation school to get my flight ratings, when I can do it much cheaper at local mom/pop FBOs.

It gives you a taste of what you are gonna get if you go to pinnacle.
Jet U is the only school in the USA that is specifically tailored towards Pinnacle. The only other school tailored for one airline alone is Mesa's MAPD.

If you think i am making inaccurate statements well i am not. Jet U paid UND about 500,000 dollars to use our sim because they didnt have one and well we are glad they are gone because we listened in on some of there sims and well you get what you pay for.

That might have been the case when the program first started, but now everyone I know is right here at FXE.

I know that you are prolly very new to flying since probably 9 months or so ago you started flying but heres the real deal very few places will hire you. Nice try, but I started flying in 2001. In this industry, it's all who you know.

You will only hear this on jetcareers forums and a few other online forums: "going to Jet U or Gulfstream (which is worse than Jet U, since that's directly buying a right seat job) ... will get you black listed!"

The truth is before 9/11, in the late 90s, people at Gulfstream Airlines (after having gone through Gulfstream Academy) would all get hired by majors, like Delta and UPS.

Now, it's ALL about WHO you know. There are 10-year RJ captains that can't even get an interview at Continental because they don't know anybody. And yet, a Gulfstream Academy kid, 25 yr old, got a job at Continental because he had inside connections. Gulfstream and Jet U people have gone on to majors.

Surprisingly, the only people who told me not to go to Jet U were these people on jetcareers forums. I know many airline pilots, both regional and majors, who thought it was good what I was going to do (my chosen path). I took all that into consideration and made a decision.

Bottom line is everyone who states that 'going to Jet u or gulfstream will get you backlisted' is just plain BS.

It's all who you know at the majors if you want to move onto UPS, Fedex, Continental, Delta, etc.

The place is a joke and the quality of training is probably not up to what most would consider safe pilot decision making skill building.

The place is not a joke, it has great quality of training. The instructors are top notch from Airtran, UPS, and Pinnacle. A few retired airline pilots teach here, too. And contrary to your belief, you would be SURPRISED how many 1000-2000+ hour pilots are at Jet U for the CRJ course. With these guys, they haven't flown in a few years, so they decided to come here. NOT everyone is a wet commercial multi with 250 hours.

First of all, Pinnacle is my #1 choice due to wanting DTW Michigan. Home based is unbeatable, if you ask me. No commuting saves a hassle. Second, only reason I didn't apply to Pinnacle yet is I don't have the 'street' mins to apply. Go to Pinnacle's website, and you will see their street minimums (mine are lower, otherwise I would have applied). Pinnacle also lists a bunch of approved bridge programs and Jet U is one of them.

P.S. when Jet U was up here we had a huge laugh about the place just because they try to sell people the idea of becoming Airline pilots in a year and well thats jsut outright dangerous and really almost impossible to happen because on year of training is not going to give you the ability to fly a jet and for the few that do make it they will be hated on the line pretty bad.

A bunch of UND people laughed at Jet U? The same way others laugh at UND and Riddle students (TODAY, after 9/11) for spending thousands and thousands on your flight ratings, when you could do it at a fraction of a cost at a local FBO?

Again, you misunderstand Jet U. Their flight school portion just started in March this year.

No one has gone 0-9 months airline pilot, and I can tell you no one will. The weather is so bad here during the summer at FLL, that many people have their flight lessons/checkrides cancelled and rescheduled.

Everyone in the CRJ course has been flying for *years*. I know a guy with 1200 hours and one with 2000 hours total time. Both haven't flown in over five years, so they decided to come here.

There are a few 250-300 hr pilots, but Jet U is not the only school producing that. ATPs has had a few 300-hr pilots get on with Pinnacle through their 7 day RJ transition course.

Thats life for a Jet U pilot, good luck with that, and like i said when you go to another airline and pass there ground school and IOE and you send me that info I will retract my statement becasue I am willing to bet the farm.

You're still stuck in what I call the "jetcareer student brainwashed mentality" in which you truly believe that anyone going to Gulfstream or Jet U will never get further than Pinnacle or Gulfstream Airlines. Check your sources again, talk to ex-grads of Gulfstream and Pinnacle. I know two Gulfstream Academy folks who flew their 250 hrs on the Beech, got hired at Pinnacle, made captain, then went to Airtran when they had the mins. Some have gone to Continental. It's all who you know in todays world.

What ever floats your boat, i am paying less than you are and i have more traingin thatn you. clear and simple, you go the route you want but like i said if pinnacle is your only choice then good for you but dont expect a warm welcome from me or anyone else because you Jet U group at pinnacle right now get made fun even at ground at pinnacle and you may have the upper hand on Pinnacle flows and training but really thats all you are good for. So good Luck god speed and just be careful to where you say you got your training because the majortiy think Jet U ATP and GIA are all fads and ripoffs. And UND and ERAU may be ripoff compared to part 61 which is still debateable because the requirements for licensing under part 61 are slighty higer than part 141 but thats for a CFI discussion anyway. The school brings you alot of attirubutes that you do not get at Jet U or even sometimes at a part 61. By the wya my CFi is part 61 so the cost was more expensive under part 61 than 141 so letting ya know. Good Luck becasue you are gonna need it.

Is it wrong for me to think that people who do goto GIA, and other obvious PFJ establishments. . .that they should be blacklisted?

We blacklist scabs. . .why not start blacklisting people right from the start? Need some sort of established industry standard I suppose.

Note: I didn't say JetU.

Farva, while I like most of your points, and agree with your thoughts on JetU fact is that JetU grads and Gulfstream will be able to move up the food chain if they meet the requirements.

That being a degree + total time + networking could =job @ brand XXX.

C_C if you want to go to MAPD or JetU or Gulfstream, just go already and stop defending or rationalizing your choice.

The only people who are or may have problems are GoJeter's. They have been told good day in inveterviews. But even that is no guarantee.

Lets post friendly.

Jet U is the only school in the USA that is specifically tailored towards Pinnacle.
I can't believe that's a selling point:(
I know many airline pilots, both regional and majors, who thought it was good what I was going to do...
9 out of 10 "legacy" airline pilots couldn't tell you who GIA is, much less what they do. If you told them up front you would PAY to be an FO and they agreed, I would be shocked (unless they did it themselves).
Bottom line is everyone who states that 'going to Jet u or gulfstream will get you backlisted' is just plain BS.
Are you aware that people are still carrying the EAL scab list from 1991? Tell me again people aren't blacklisted.
The place is not a joke...And contrary to your belief, you would be SURPRISED how many 1000-2000+ hour pilots are at Jet U for the CRJ course.
And how many 5000 to 15,000 tt pilots?

I know two Gulfstream Academy folks who flew their 250 hrs on the Beech, got hired at Pinnacle, made captain, then went to Airtran when they had the mins.
Two out of how many? Maybe we won't have to worry so much anyway :D

Are you aware that people are still carrying the EAL scab list from 1991? Tell me again people aren't blacklisted.

But those guys are scabs, they crossed the picket line. Going to Jet U or Gulfstream isn't crossing a picket line.

I fail to see your comparison.

And how many 5000 to 15,000 tt pilots?

None, but if you have that much time, you wouldn't be applying to a regional anyway. You're probably quailified for a corporate/major airline.

Two out of how many? Maybe we won't have to worry so much anyway :D

That's just two that *I* know of. There are plenty others, you can bet on that.

Get made fun of at Pinnacle ground school? The instructors feedback (so far) from MEM is good regarding Jet U students. Then again, Jet U might have had just one that didn't make it through. What's the wash rate for street hires? MUCH higher. Instead of wasting time making fun of Jet U grads, maybe the street hires should concentrate on passing and not washing out?

"Majority think" all fads/rip offs?

Like NJA Captain said, 90% of legacy pilots don't even know what Gulfstream Academy or Jet U are.

I can't defend Gulfstream for what they do, I think it's bad to pay 30k to sit in the right seat... so you're buying a job.

I would NEVER recommend Gulfstream Academy to anyone.

But Jet U is not like Gulfstream. Jet U's CRJ program is just a training course, with an interview at the end. You can still blow the interview and not get hired at Pinnacle. So, you're not buying a job. Jet U is just like ATPs, or any other large flight school with an RJ course. I don't think that's bad. To each his own.

The sim instructors love you guys, great.

How do the line pilots feel about ya'll? How do the captains like ya'll?

Hows about you ask some of our Pinnacle FO's that frequent the forums.
