I made my decision

August 2003, first semester of college.

Facts are facts...You have said on this thread that ATP gives you an immersion and a get there the fastest way to reach an airline.

I have been flying since April of 2004 and have 2000+ hours under my belt and I didn't go to ATP. Don't say that ATP is the only way to get time fast or that you 'immerse' yourself in a training program. Been there done that and didn't go to a 'fast track program'

I just want to make it VERY clear I am not pounding my chest. But when one is spouting off the get their the quickest way is ATP I have to make sure all the facts get out.

"Yes, Andrew. I don't disagree with any of that. My problem, like I've said a million times, is with some of the marketing stuff and the 90 day program and how it leads to teaching the next newbie with no real world experience.

If a guy is going self paced, so he has a chance for the training to sink in, and has a good CFI, I see no reason that ATP wouldn't be a good choice.

I still think you'd do better with buying your own airplane, bro. And I'm not just saying that cause I have one I want to part with...."

:yeahthat:

Airdale, make sure you keep a copy of that post because there is so much good insight there that you can use it over and over again. Really.

I would have never thought this would have gone on for 7 pages, soon to be 8... I have leanred a lot... and one thing, every one is passionate about their feelings. And I respect that.

lol, the thing is, is that this type of thread happens like every couple months, I remember an ATP vs FBO war going on before I went to ATP, In fact on another forum, I seen these ATP vs FBO threads dated way back in 1995 when the price was around 25 thousand. One thing I noticed though that I seen very few people that went to ATP regret their decision, They know exactly what they get. However if you play your game right, you can probably get a better deal doing the FBO route, save money, and doing it almost just as fast.

Just to add a little levity...

Have I told you guys about this great immersion school that puts you left seat in a twin-turbine helicopter? Yup, in just over a year you'll be a fully qualified aviator flying the line! And okay, sure... the training contract blows - you have to stay with the company for 6 years, but they PAY YOU to go through training!

:D

With the right CFI and the right student, you can do a "full immersion" program without going to ATP. I did it as a student, and I did it for my students as an instructor (if that's what they wanted). Believe it or not, ATP does NOT have the market cornered. The only thing they have that allows them to jack the price more than everyone else is letters of agreement with airlines. Without those, I don't think we'd see so many people willing to fork over that much cash for essentially the same program as White Air, Skymates, etc.

Congrats on making the decision to take the path that bests suites YOUR needs and ambitions.

If I can be of any help, feel free to PM you get a lot less male hose swinging that way.

Oh I am sure one may be able to. But as we all have said one thing works better than it may for another. There are no FBO's in my area that are willing to do it 90 days. They don't have the aircraft, time, or the (CFi manpower) for that type of accelerated program. The fastest I have been told is 8 months. While 8 months is not bad at all, but for what’s going in my life and what’s planned out it works really well for me. And trust me, it I won’t show up with my pants down to my knees bent over. I am going order all the books and study guides now, just and just study, study, and study.

Alright thanks... one thing I wanted o know is what I could do to prepare my self in the best way before I go. I'm ordering all their training and study manuals. Hell my mother even bought me some stuff from King Schools because she is funny like that. Anyway, ya for what's going on in my life the program work out the best. And I want to have as much knowledge as possible; about IFR/CFI/II/ME/COMM/CROSS COUNTRY... are there any training materials that you would recommend? And what do you think about the Sportys, and King Schools type of stuff?

If you're out to insult people, at least make sure your insults are spelled correctly. It's bad enough that most of the words in your posts aren't.

One, I’m not out to insult people. Two, the incorrect spelling in the signature is supposed to be like that, some get it, some don’t. I don’t expect you too. And the typo's in my post, well, sorry, it’s hard typing on a palm while at work, I am using a pen to punch in words, and sometimes it’s a bit tricky...Although I appreciate your opinionated comments, if they do not contribute to the discussion please refrain from posting in my thread. Thank you! Have fun!

And one piece of info about my signature is from a handicapped kid that’s a local comedian that I am friends with. Its just piece of his material.
