So I was invited to interview.........

With Air Cargo Air Carriers. Regretfully, I had to turn it down. They wanted me to provide my own travel, about $508 in air fair, hotel accommodations, about $60, and in addition to that, they want me to show up with a class 1 flight physical (I guess a class 2 isn't good enough to interview), about $170 for it. Total cost for all that...about $770 dollars.

I really wanted the job, but I am not ready, nor I have that kind of money to just go and try.

I don't know what to do if next time a prospect employer requires me to do something like that..:banghead:

Class 1 medical is reasonable request. $170 dollars seems like a lot to get it, though.

I would hope they would cover travel costs, though. :buck:

True. Show up with a first class medical. You'll have to get one every 6 to 12 months for the rest of your career, so might as well get in the habit now.

This makes no sense; you... I spend/will spend thousands of dollars, not to mention the amount of time you put into flying/training...And you turn down an intwerview because its going to cots 770$ bucks to make the trip.....can we trade places please?:sarcasm:

I feel his pain. Every now and then the budget gets tight. Who knows what has just happened to him, or if he just had to fork out fistfulls of cash for something else. Timing just may have been off.

Sounds like he wanted to go, but couldn't. Sucks to have to turn down an interview.

I'm a newb I just would feel like anyone would have wanted to jump on something like that. But hey, any pilot knows, some times, its just not time to fly. Good luck, I hope you find something you love D R ATC

Uh...no. I'm not going to pay close to a thousand dollars just to make 19,800.

When most other companies get you *there*...

I can understand. Been there...

The medical thing, though...get the 1st class now. The company could always put you through their "own" medical eval, but have decided to take an AMEs word for it! That's a really good deal! Trust me, personal experience with "company" medical evals here...

Does the shorts even require a 1st class / ATP? I didn't think it did...

I was the only one of 4 to show up for my interview there. And FWIW I spent about $50 total on my interview there, for the hotel and food, because I flew for free. I wouldn't of paid much more than that to work there, it wasn't worth it. I'm right there with you on that one.

yeah..I know that pretty much everyone wants to see a Class 1 flight physical, and that is why I am getting one next week. The 170 bucks for it I can afford. That is not a problem. The problem is that I live in the Northwest and all the airfares that I checked into are around 508 to 610 bucks round trip. I tried to search for dates that were about 2 months in advance and still are a little higher.

I am just going to continue here and wait for something I really want...like Xpressjet or Horizon...I the mean time I will continue building some flying time. Hopefully I will pass my CFI check ride the first time....will keep you posted.

Dont sweat it, EVERYTHING happens for a reason.......So maybe you just werent meant to be there....something will come along your way and when it does youll know its right

You told them you couldn't afford to do the interview right? It might make them think twice about their process.

Thanks for all the advice...

yeah, I told them I if they were able to provide arrangements for my travel I would go, but noting was said.

I'll try the Regionals, however, I want to build some more time. I am a very low timer and I'd like to master the basic flying skills before I set foot in the right seat of an RJ or anything like that.:panic:
