I agree that asking "any traffic in the area please advise" four times in a minute is ridiculous, but when you are coming through a practice area where at any given time there may be 5 or more cessnas at various altitudes practicing maneuvers, I see nothing wrong with asking traffic in the area to advise their position at an uncontrolled field. By the way, the practice area is on the 45 degree to the downwind leg. The first time that you have a near miss because someone does not announce their position, your attitude might change.
