CFII Written

Hey fellers,

I am getting ready to start my CFII written stuff. It's been a few years since I have done any instrument work. I just wanted to confirm the written book for your instrument rating is the same as the written for my CFII. If so it would have been nice of my instructor to tell me to take the test twice to get instrument and my CFII written out of the way. Also I could have taken my AGI when I was doing my CFI Written. Nice information I hope you pass on to your students. My instructors never did.

Isn't there a few more questions for the II than the Instrument? Although I know it is practically the same thing either way.

If I remember right it's 60 for the inst. and 50 for the II, either way they come from the same question bank.

I understand the setiment, but isn't that the same as taking the stance of "look how smart I used to be" Because you've been out of it for a bit it will do you some good to get back in the books.

You know what? I'm in the same position myself.

Hey fellers,

Well, if it's been a few years, it would have timed out by now anyway.
Also I could have taken my AGI when I was doing my CFI Written.
If you're interested in your ground instructor rating, the IGI and CFII (FII) are the same test, btw.

There are no added questions for the IGI? Seems like there would be some questions thrown in there much like the AGI. I didn't think about this - great to know. If that is the case than the worst part would be the 90 bucks. Do you think it helps out the ole resume?

Nope, same pool. There shouldn't be any extra thrown in for the AGI, either.Well, I guess it can't hurt.

I do know the AGI has glider / lighter-than-air/ basic helicopter type questions thrown in there. Don't know how many but there are additional questions. Thanks for the help everyone!

i took my cfii written a few weeks ago. i had a jeppesen instrument study guide from 2000 and studied that. the questions on the written were taken from the same bank of questions.

you can find more info here about written tests:

http://www.faa.gov/education_research/testing/airmen/media/testing_matrix.pdf

the big difference i saw in the number of questions for the cfii written were between the AIF and the FII tests. the aif only has 20 questions, and the fii (i took this one) has 50 questions. for the aif, i believe you need a current flight instructor certificate (which i don't have) and an endorsement from your instructor as well. i believe you have to look up order 8080.6 and you'll find this info in there. here's what is states:

Added rating tests may be administered to an applicant who meets specific
requirements; however, the applicant has the option of taking the full test. Added rating tests are available
for holders of airline transport pilot, flight instructor, and flight engineer certificates, or for holders of valid
test reports for those certificates. These tests are specific in content, and shorter than initial tests. [Figures
7-6 through 7-10]
NOTE: Before being administered an added rating test for a flight instructor certificate, the applicant must
present evidence of having received ground instruction or of having satisfactorily completed a home-study
course in the appropriate knowledge areas. This is normally accomplished by an instructor logbook
endorsement.
