When should I apply to ASA?

Ok, here is what is going on.

I have already done the graduation ceremony at my school, however I have to take a class in the summer to be "OFFICALY graduated". When should I apply to ASA? The reason I am asking is, do they or can they give you a class date a few monthes away? Like I could interview now and if they said yes we will hire you and you can start in August...that would be awesome. However if they say no we can't hire you unless you can work now, ohh and by the way you have to wait 6 monthes now before reapplying. I am worried about the 6th month wait to reapply if they turn me down so I don't want to waste my once chance if anyone here knows it can't be done. What would any of you recommend? Prefereably like to here from someone who knows first hand or what ASA's policy is, but I will take all the advice I can get. Thanks

I was told to apply once you met the mins. I would also have the ATP written done, as they test on that. I would also make sure the Class 1 Medical is current and get the FCC license.

I might have you confused with another JC'r, but I thought you mentioned having to take a summer class, is that you?

Well, I meet minimum requirments. I have a FCC license, I can get a 1st class medical tomorrow if I needed too. I will do the ATP written soon, but I just needed to know if I should look at applying soon like in the next couple of weeks or wait until I am completely done with school. And obviously, they do not require a 4 year degree so it wouldn't matter to them whether I was done or not. What matters is will they give me a class date in about August or do they only hire who can start in the next class?

I beleive they will want you in the next class available. I would make sure you are done with school, but wait until others here on the board respond to the class dates given for recent ASA hires. You could also look in the member annoucements and see if someone announced an ASA hire and their start date.

Good Luck!

Dude, If you have the flight time requirements, here is one piece of advice: APPLY NOW! They are not in the position to give you the 6 months crap at this point. I know of more than one person who applied January of this year and did not start until they had graduated in May.

I say it is smart to apply only if you're willing and able to start working the next day.

Hmm....I guess I am going to need more inputs cause right now it is 50/50. Thanks for your thoughts, but I really do need to know what to do cause I have no clue how this is going to go down. Will they cover this in the phone interview or what? CHEERS

Well, we had a guy on here apply to several airlines and ask multiple times to have his interview and or training schedule pushed back for life events.

He got dropped *I believe* from almost every interview as a result. If you have a class to make up this summer to graduate, take the class. ASA will still be the cess pool of whipsaw and an extremely mismanaged airline that it is today, and still looking for people with 500/50!

No worries dude. College first!

Don't hold back, tell us how you really feel...haha

Don't worry, one class to go, I am not about to quit now. Like I said, I am just getting to excited and yet very bummed out because I have to sit through the whole summer taking one freakin class that has no point. Ohh well, I am still getting to fly corporate a lot so I am not too worried about it. Thanks to everyone for their help.

I'm with Max on this one. If you can't take the job ASAP, don't apply. I was gonna bring up the other JCer that had this issue, but he beat me to it. I said the same thing in that thread, and I still believe it. For me, applying for a job says you are ready to take that job within two weeks.

No, I completely understand. I am fully aware of the problems that ASA is having and I am fully prepared to deal with them. But as I am sure you will agree, someone who is just starting out in the regional world who is young probably won't have as much beef with what is going on than someone who has been doing it for years and years and is just looking for something better. I am looking forward to flying with them (hopfully) and all the problems that go along with it.

On the other hand, I do and have agreed with most of you about waiting until I can start before applying. To me there is nothing worse than asking for a job then telling them what you can and cannot do. I expect to ask for a job and then be told to show up the next day if that is what it takes. Thanks for all your help.
