Well, they really were a regional airline. They just happened to be a HUGE regional airline.

To me, the history of US is one of the most fascinating of any company I have seen.

I've been in ALPA since late 70s and in that time ALPA's "merger policy" was never DOH. It always was to have the two groups work out their own list considering all factors. Strict DOH is rarely a fair way to integrate a list so it is rarely used. ALPA's merger policy is fair enough that, to my knowledge, a seniority list integration between two ALPA groups has never been dismantled in court even though they are always contested by unhappy individuals.
 
From what I heard all the furloughed east guys were stapled, and the rest were integrated all the way up.

I don't really want to say this, but be thankful you did better than the T-dub guys.

Fair enough... I was repeating "crew room gossip" and I guess I should have put up a disclaimer.

I'm going to be careful what I say (I told myself I wouldnt say anything at all...oops) but the ALPA policy says "no windfalls". The merging of the lists did not take into consideration how many USeast guys are going to be retiring in the next 5 years, rocketing the HP guys up the list. For an HP guy to go from his humble and stagnant HP career expectations to dreaming of shooting up into the internationals in short time is a windfall!

Also, the degree to which HP 'saved' AAA is debatable, but to end up with a list like this and use that topic as a justification showed that it was obviously biased way to one side. The AAA bankruptcy president guy (I forget his name) went shopping for a merger partner. He had more than one option...he choose Doug Parker. That doesn't sound like 'saving' to me.

Now, I also think the USeast guys are going a little overboard, they should be able to look past "I just lost 1200 numbers!!!" or "I'm junior to a 200x hire!!!". That being said, the fences should have been much higher IMO.

BTW - the stories of the US furloughees that went to HP are halarious, tell me they didnt get a windfall!

What airlines are being discussed here? Who is US/HP? A link to some background info?

Normally, I would agree, but these guys were all furloughed AAA guys discussing how they just got screwed, so unless Riddle has moved on to a Legacy (sort of) Direct Entry program, I think they all have been out of the program for a while.

US = US Airways
HP = America West

Those are common IATA abbreviations for the airlines.
