Air show and radio frequencies

Is it possible to tune in to a military frequency (UHF?) at an airshow that is non-airport based (Air and Sea show)?
 
I've not heard of a "non-airport" air show, what have you found, I'm curious? Are you talking about listening to military training missions?

If you know the freqs, you bet. Unless they're flying "over there", to the best of my knowledge they don't encript transmissions for regular flight ops...especially an air show no doubt. This is not classified information. I'm down in VBeach, VA right now and NAS Oceana is only like a 10 minute drive away. I can sit and listen to them (F/A-18's) all day on the 'ol transceiver. You just need the freqs that they're using. I take it to the air shows as well, and can listen to everything they say; and what they're about to do:D .

By "non-airport based", I assume you mean a MILITARY airfield, maybe? You just need to know where to look...these days, you can FIND ANYTHING ON THE INTERNET:rolleyes: ...*hint*.
 
By non-airport air show, i think he means Air and Sea air show. I think many new receivers have a scan function to help you locate frequencies in use.
 
Yep, I mean the Ft. Lauderdale Air and Sea Show which is located on the beach.

My radio has a function that searches for frequencies. If I can't do it that way though how would I go about finding the frequency? Is it one of the FLL frequencies?

I must have read right over that last part in parathesis. That is a definite route as well though...if your radio has a scan function. Not all have it...and if you don't, and your based on a ship, walk up to the transceiver room/radio shack and ask the ET's what the freqs are. If it's not classified info (something like that more than likely ISN'T), they can give it up.
