Amflight lowers minimums

I would love to fly frieght, but my hours is my death to that. I have had a 121 call me crazy and a few other things as I fly IFR SEL.

That said, I will continue to fly my Part91. :(

Not that it matters, who wants to come fly ancient airplanes when they can go fly brand new jets with 700 hours? Only crazy people like me, and I think we're a very small minority.

Ah OK I see what you are saying. It doesn't make any sense why they would add more "training captains" though.

Also, I wouldn't be TOO quick to point your finger at SJS. I think every job decision, for MOST people (except maybe academy grads...) boils down to a QOL vs. Pay vs. Stability vs. Upgrade Potential vs. Commuting/Moving.

My guess is you are seeing the results of a quick SkyWest upgrade, QOL, and potential pay difference wooing people away from your company right now. (I say SkyWest because they have bases where the majority of your operations are).

I just meant low time as in lower than 135 mins.

My point was that the solution to a shortage of line pilots isn't to hire more instructors who can't fly the line.

And finally, I agree- our "recruiting" department, as it were, is a joke. Not that it matters, who wants to come fly ancient airplanes when they can go fly brand new jets with 700 hours? Only crazy people like me, and I think we're a very small minority. Then, of the people we do get, half can't fly and wash out. I just can't for the life of me figure out why we are hiring more instructors. Maybe I will call and inquire about this dumb idea later... that would be fun. :cwm27:

Mostly because we've got one trainer working on computer stuff, him and another guy doing recruiting stuff and another going to the 99 in this class. We've only got 3 offline trainers left in Burbank right now and all three will be in the 99 within the next few months.

So in order for those guys to move to the 99, where they need to be, because we can't find qualified 99 pilots to do online training.

I'll answer the other questions later with good luck, along with replying to e-mails. I've been busy as heck at work and haven't had much of a chance to come back to this thread.

I find this mildly amusing. Why, exactly, do we need to lower the mins and attract low-time training captains when we can't fill Chieftain classes? No classes means no one for them to train. Not to mention we have line-qualified training captains all over the system who are just flying the line by themselves, not training anyone. If this is their way of recruiting eventual line pilots in some convoluted, roundabout way, it's ass backwards.

They're trying to resist the inevitable....increasing the pay to attract more people. I'm still waiting for my raise. And I am not talking about the one thats about to come with the 99 upgrade.:)

Oh well. It just means more TDY for me.

Any of other AMF'er heard the rumut of hiring FO's with a 1000 hrs and paying them as they get the extra 200 hrs and make them CA afterwards?

They ain't got no sweet tea in Burbank I hear.

When I was "Passing time" in St. Louis and Kansas City, that was a shocker.

Me: "I'll have the two piece white white combo with green beans and sweet tea"

Drive-through voice: "We don't have sweet tea. Only unsweetend"

Me: "Arggg, this is B.S.!!!!!! Just give me a diet coke."

:laff:

:yeahthat: WTF!! I hate that about this area.
I goto Carbondale,IL last weekend and they have Sweet Tea at McDonalds!
It's pathetic, I went to Chick-Fil-A in the mall the other day just to get some decent sweet tea.

I'm finally getting to the point where I can hear "would you like a pop?", and I don't say "huh???" immediately after.

But they had sweet tea at Interstate BBQ! :)

That would piss me off. In fact, I'd leave. It seems they will do anything to not have to raise the pay, which hasn't changed since around '99-'00, when gas was $.95/gal. You can be damn sure that what they charge the customer has gone up with inflation/fuel prices, but our pay certainly hasn't. A $.15/hr "raise" per year (for the Metro/1900), means that in reality (due to inflation), we make less and less money each year. Raising the pay and making some schedule changes is the only way I can see that they are going to attract quality pilots that will stick around.

Besides, the only airplanes they could do this in are the Chieftains, so all that is going to do is attract people who have no multi time. They're going to get it on our dime, and then bail to the regionals and the circle jerk will continue.

Welcome to my world.:banghead:

Look for ALPA contracts to start having cost of living pay raises written into them.

Some already do ;)

As well as "snap up" clauses that reevaluate pay scales of your aircraft type and adjust it accordingly.

We got a ~4.5% bump last year, on a concessionary contract...(and -25% growth...)

AMF can't fill airplanes because they have some people (or a single person) that need help in the recruiting department!
