Swapping -50's for more -90's

MD that is.

From the chief pilot's office daily bulletin:

Rumor Mill Answer: Yes, Delta is in discussions with a foreign carrier to swap some of our 50 seaters for additional MD-90 aircraft.

Sweet! Bring 'em to CVG ;)

Nah, probably not going to be in CVG, but at least get 'em on the property!

MD-90s break waaaaaay too much. They're nice to fly on, and the flight deck looks nice and all. But working on them SUCKS!

The key to a happy MD-90 is not treating it like an MD-88 with better engines and the regular MD-90-specific maintenance intervals.

Southernjets treated the MD-88 as a 'stretch 9' and that more or less works, but a 'stretch 9' and a -90 are two different animals entirely.

More jets = more pilots needed = enhanced career potential for more pilots.

This would be a great step in the right direction. It won't hurt anyone in the regionals, it will just mean you need to interview to go to a job where you make more money and have a better QOL- for some you will need to draw it out though b/c they like the RJ world. BEYOND ME!

A very short-sighted outlook. Where DO you want more jobs/aircraft added? At low paying regionals? Or a higher paying/better work rules major?

:sarcasm: . . . I wasn't attacking any major pilot, or hell even a regional pilot. I said what I said in jest.

Peace be with you. . .

...and were would these carriers be WITHOUT the majors? Time to get the planes back to the majors instead of outsourcing the flying!

Anything > 50 needs to be at the MAJORS. . . agreed!!11 YIPEE!!1

Yipeee!!!!11

Great news indeed. . .

Except for CMR/SKW/ASA/CHQ.

Well obviously at the higher paying positions - yet it would suck if I lost my job at a company regardless of what was happening - short sightedness or not...unless of course I was given preferential hiring (although the Comair guys did it to themselves it seems).

Still a step in the right direct - those 50 seaters just don't make any money, why they even sprang up to such popularity baffles me to this day. The carriers that have heavily leveraged their fleet with them will probably be hurting in the next 5 years as larger aircraft (regional and mainline) take over routes.

FWIW, I don't work at Comair. The point of my original post was that it looks like the plans for them are starting to be laid out...

Sweet. Maybe there IS hope for us non TPIC FOs to get on at Delta. :)

Sucks for the CMR guys, but in reality, who would you rather lose airplanes to? Skywest or Delta?

LOL good point! In fact, how sweet would it be if the majors took it ALL back?!? (wakes up from dream world)

They can have it all, as long as I can get a job quickly after :D...it's those pesky bills that keep need tending too.

In reality I think most of us would rather not lose them to anyone. Most of us here believe comair is dying a slow death, probably to be accelerated soon should a sale to another airline occur.

My point was losing it to Delta, at least there's a better job to go to. If you lose them to Skywest, ASA, Mesa, whomever, it's still gone, except it goes to someone that ISN'T higher up on the food chain. This way, there are more jobs for the regional guys to move up to. I agree it sucks to lose the flying, but you have to remember that Delta owns the flying anyway. I'd give up CRJs here to NWA if it meant I wouldn't be stuck at a regional for my whole career.
