Its not really about paying dues. Its about getting some good experience before making the next jump.

I'd take the one that pays more... given that their airplanes aren't on the edge of not being airworthy... IDK, but maybe that's just what I care about...
 
It boils down to, I made a commitment to Job A. They have also been cool about letting me wrap some things up at home before I head out there. I will be going to the canyon. Thanks everyone for your advice though, I do appreciate it.
 
For the record Job B. It was weather modification flying a Comanche 250, possible to get some Cessna 340 time. The pay was decent at $2500 a month, if this would have come up before the canyon deal I would have jumped all over it.

That's BS.

A job is a Job nothing more nothing less and, that job would dump him in a heartbeat if it needed/wanted to. I've seen it a million times. These businesses want respect and two weeks notices etc. etc.? Well its a TWO WAY street. :)

They are still hiring at 600/50. They can't really go any lower because then it takes over a year for an FO to upgrade. They're kinda stuck.

That is the problem, IMO. If we are to be professionals and want to have the industry get better, we have to be professionals. That means honoring the job if he accepted it. That will mean we are better then the company because we honor our word, but that is what it will take to turn this industry around.

I can't believe people accept jobs at companies and then NOT show up for training. I hope that they atleast call and tell them they are not coming.

I'd say go with job B because you say it is interesting work. That's the kicker for me -- if you enjoy it more, and it pays more, well, what else could you ask for?

Companies can't have it both ways "at will work status" and "honor your comitments" are mutually exclusive ideals. Or in the case of a union shop sign a legally binding, legal CONTRACT and then just pick and choose what they want to "honor" in their "comitments."

Employees for too long have been honoring the old code while business plays by an entirely new, and diffferent set.

Like I said it's a two way street.

No, seriously, I just gave my opinion. However, the commitment he made for job A was not part of the original post. If someone takes care of you, I think the decent and right thing to do is to take care of them.

So he gave up a better paying and more interesting job because company A took care of him.

Just goes to show you how treating your employees -- or potential employees -- well is definitely worth the cost!
