FCC Radio Operator License

Help!! I was following the directions printed on the thread for the FCC radio license but I came to the point where it asks what type of license I am applying for and the option for RR was listed as Restricted Operator, not Recruited Operator. Before I hit the enter button on this thing and waste the money, do I need the restricted operator license or something different.

Whatever it says RR is on the FCC website, that's what you want. For being the Federal Communications Commission, they sure aren't very good a communicating what to do on that website. :)

Just for info. They also says it takes 3-4 weeks to process and mail. I applied on the sixth of this moth and got it yesterday. I live in SoCal, so I don't know where they mail it from, but it came in less then a third of the time they say. So if you need it, I would apply now, it seems to be pretty speedy.

It took just a few days for me as well, and I live in a fairly rural area. Also, I'm just curious; what exactly is the point of this license? I know it's to fly outside the country, but what's the point? Other than just another government ploy to get money I see no point for it.

RR is the correct one and I agree their website is horrible. One note, don't lose your FRN number.

your FRN is printed on your certificate and available at the FCC universal licensing system search page, here: http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/searchLicense.jsp

Just select search by name and it'll give you anyones FRN.

essentially it is to allow you to lawfully transmit to foreign stations while inside the jurisdiction of the united states. The FCC waived (got rid of?) most of the domestic requirements a while ago for both pilots and aircraft.

Casey,

I had one older style licenses that didn't list the FRN and my information wasn't stored online...It was pain the rear for me to find the info. Took about 2 weeks on the phone to get it straightened out.

I didn't realize the FRN was online for the public to view...Thx

This license is just as valuable as a SIC type rating. Worthless.:laff:

Not only is it worthless, but it costs $60!!! As opposed to a free SIC type from your company. :)

True, but you have to love when the company adds one rating on your license and deletes your other types....Had to spend nearly a month on the phones with the feds to get it fixed...
