Lights on the ground at the airport ...

You brief the Captain?
.

Yeah I was gonna say, generally they are the ones briefing me :D. When they ask if I have any questions on their brief I ask about when they like to take over the aircraft on landing, when they like the in-range/approach checklist called for, and when they like the APU on but heck I still feel appreciative they LET me fly the plane :D!!

Although in Seggy's case, he probably flies more because he is the autopilot :). J/k man!

Oh Jeez. Guys I am a COMPLETE DumbA$$!!!!!!!!

This was an example of when you post something and it doesn't come out the way you want!

First and foremost. PLEASE do NOT think I am one of those FOs that sits in the right seat with 3.5 stripes and is the right seat capitano. I AM NOT.

It is the captain's ship, I am the gear, flap, and door gunner. :)

What I meant to say is, what wheels said, when THEY, the captains give me the brief and ask if I have any questions, I say, "nope, just don't get me killed violated or fired."

Tony and wheels, thank you for pointing out my dumbness, in my wording.

PS - Wheels, I'm going through training next week with the same 'someone' who is printing a lot of stuff for us :D

Ever wonder why Military dudes that are security at the airport are still wearing camo? The whole point is for them to be seen...Guess they were all out of Orange Crossing Guard unis?

Airplane lights do not bother me so much at airports. I like being able to see them so I don't hit them. The only thing that really annoys me is some of these FBO/building lights. Ill tell you what, trying to taxi into a ramp filled with airplanes while its raining all with those bright lights in your face... that can get hairy. Combine that with a partially fogged windshield and now your earning your pay!!

:yeahthat:

Plus I don't worry about my night vision because I'm usually inside a brightly lit FBO and then walk out to my airplane and are airborne within 2-3 minutes. You need about 25-30 minutes for it to make much of any difference.

seggy,

Its my Co. SOP to turn on all the lights when entering or crossing active runways. Personally, I always liked leaving the landing lights off when holding in position and turning them on when cleared for takeoff. That told everyone downfield we were rolling. However, after the LAX accident, the Company came up with the SOP.

Too late!!! Whiner WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA:D

Strobes and inspections when crossing a runway is published procedure here. Obviously the taxi light would also be on since it comes on whenever the aircraft is moving.

[begin rant]

Am I the only one that thinks this way?

Also I would LOVE to have a little chitchat with the Embraer designer who designed the location of the strobes on the E-170 and E-190

[end rant]

You are definitely not the only one who thinks this way. Why can't they put one friggin light on the side??? From a passenger's perspective, if you sit behind the wing at night and you want to look out the window, you're blinded by the strobe on the trailing edge. When I was working solely E-170's on the ramp when US had them in their posession I would hear passengers constantly complain about it.

To me it all depends on the situation. If I'm told to hold short and there's nobody behind me or really close to me, I'm gonna be a Christmas tree so that I don't get landed on. If I don't hear somebody on final and there's somebody waiting near me in line when I go to hold short, if I think its practical I'll keep the strobes off. If the lights from a plane are so strong that you can't see, look away until they pass. Another indirect way of dealing with the 747 issue would have been to tell Boston ground "yeah, I'm gonna have to hold short for a second, I can't see anything with the 747s landing lights ahead of me". I'd be willing to bet that the pilots weren't aware that it was even an issue. Its all about tactful hinting, just like when somebody is flying wide or slow traffic patterns at an uncontrolled field, instead of saying "hey jackass, speed it up". Try something like "have the ____in sight and I'm slowing for spacing". They're probably not doing it on purpose, but if they are made aware of the problem they'll fix it.
