Mesaba Interview

Got called for Mesaba Interview in Eagan Thursday Morning the 15th. Anyone know anyone at Mesaba or know anything about the interview changes, and yes, I HAVE ALREADY GONE TO AVIATIONINTERVIEWS.COM.
Sounds like a tough interview. My biggest thing is just trying to relax. I'm Chillin the whole weekend, trying not to think about it , but it's tough. PM me with whatever info. Thanks.

I heard they were paying $10,000 a year first year.

I'd head to Lakes before I went to Mesaba these days.

Would love Great Lakes, but sent them updated resumes and haven't heard back. I'm from Canton, Ohio and Mesaba's been a dream job for me since I wanted to fly for a living. (And I can hear all you guys out there saying WHAT? ARE YOU CRAZY?) Pay aside, and I'm definitely not in this career for the money, if I'm not flying the Saab, or any other turboprop,(for whoever, and I HAVE interviewed with Colgan), I'm not gonna be truly happy.

No, thats not true.

They're on a concessionary pay schedule until 2012. From what I read it's like 2% a year until 2012.

They're projecting all new hires to go to the CRJ9 as well.

So if that interests you...

My understanding is that Mesaba pilots are looking at making about $10,000 a year when you look at only their monthly guarantee and after paying for health insurance.

And who gives a crap if they're going into the CRJ-900?

Further, doesn't it scare you when somebody that says, "I'm not in it for the money?" I can tell you that with bills to pay it scares the living crap out of me that there are folks out there that don't care about how much money they make, because that lowers MY pay scale when my company comes back and says "We think you're over paid, Steve over there will do your job for half of what we're paying you. Now stop complaining."

:yeahthat:
Don't think you're a hero going into aviation not caring about how much you make. Once the shine wears off you WILL need that money and after you agree to make pennies there is nothing you can do about it.
Good luck with the interview.

It does scare me, and I don't care about the CRJ9, I was just passing along information. I didn't know about health insurance costs being that high.

I was just commenting on base pay via Monthly guarantee. That being said...there are better companies out there.

Sorry to get things going about pay amongst everyone. I just genuinely was looking for help for an interview for a job that I would like to have, and once in the ALPA, I will support my brothers and sisters, don't worry I won't be a picket line crosser. I just want to fly for a company of which I have a great affinity and don't want to cause problems. Life's too short to sweat the small stuff. If I get the job, great, if not, life WILL go on and I'll keep trying, and it doesn't HAVE to be Mesaba. I was just looking for help with the interview that I have next.

Just for clarity's sake. Say you were hired by Mesaba as an FO and then at the beginning of the 3rd year you get your upgrade to Capt. Does that mean that you would receive the 3 year's pay as a Capt, or do you start down at the bottom of the payscale for Capt.? And, is this the case for all regionals/majors when upgrading from FO to Capt?

So wait, you won't cross a line, or you won't cause problems?

Which is it?

I hate you grill you, because I understand you're pretty fresh to the forums here, but either you're going to stand up for the union and a livable wage or you won't.

I would very seriously avoid Mesaba right now, they're going to get whipsawed against Pinnacle/Colgan and Compass at this point. It doesn't matter that you dig the Saab, you're going to get screwed there. Trust me, after a few months of flying the line you really don't care about what type of equipment you're in. You start caring much more about pay rates and quality of life.

What are your times?

No, it's ok I don't feel like you're grilling me. You're bringing up some good points and you're right money would be nice, but I heard it's a difficult interview and the experience would be good, as I AM new to all of this. I am just trying to keep a positive frame of mind about everything because some times reading these message boards are just downright depressing. So I guess the new question is, 'Go to the interview for experience sake alone and worry later about wether or not they offer me a job, or don't even go at all?" My gut reaction is not to be rude, but again, I am new.

By the way, 700ish TT and 150ME.

Over at FI, when they go their TA ratified after all the hoopla that goes on there. Someone said that starting pay was more like $20-25k and others confirmed it!

Still ###### pay if true. If you want to check have fun that thread might be 18 pages.

Life isn't always nice or fair. Were not going to sugar coat things here and blow smoke up your ass. But were not going to insult you or call you outa your name like "other" sites will.

The choice is your, do what you want to do. Were just all about educating you so that you know what to expect before hand and don't bitch that you were ignorant after the fact.

This board is what you and I make it, nothing more.

I'd go to the interview for sure, but I'd also pursue other options before putting a foot on Mesaba property. It's been a huge mess there, and I doubt it'll get much better any time soon.

So back to question what would YOU do? I am torn by my desire to get hired and when you add in that it's Mesaba......I don't know. It's like playing for the Cleveland Browns, to put it in an analogy. I've loved them since I was a kid and always will, but their record isn't that great and I constantly have to hear about how bad they suck from some well informed people, but they ARE in the NFL and it would look good on a resume in the future when it comes to trading season, seeing as a lot of people might view it as putting in your dues.

Only difference is no matter if you play for the Browns or the Colts you're still going to make some serious cash. Not always the case with the regionals. Remember they aren't going to do you any favors. You can't see whats painted on the outside when your in the cockpit anyways...

Man Mike I REALLY like that quote, 'You can't see what's painted on the outside of the cockpit' that's so cool.' That's a GREAT way of looking at it and I will definitely keep that in the back of my FMS (my brain).

Plus, I'm signed up for ATP's Jet Program anyways for early April, maybe that'll open some doors for me.

Waste of money at your hours, I'd avoid a program like that with how many hours you have.

Have you applied at ExpressJet and Pinnacle yet?
