XJT housing while training?

Earplugs... ;)

You can always change roomates... lot's of folks did during the first week when "Sim Partners" were picked... that way they could more effectively study and run the flows/profiles/etc. together.

I dont have a problem with my snoring, but asks those that stayed in the condo for NJC!
Since there is an even number in training, odds drop getting a single huh?
 
OK is it just me, or does pairing new hires up in a hotel room just seem a bit over the top? It's not a bash on XJT, they aren't the only airline that does this (most do) but it's just weird to do. That and I would think it would open the company up to some lawsuits.

We're talking, what, $20k+ to train an FO and paying an extra ~$50/night for 4 weeks is asking too much?
 
My company does the same thing (non-airline) for our national sales meetings.

They usually pair you up with people they know you went through product training with and are friends with.

Well... here's the scoop from what I can see...

First and foremost... you are not an "employee" of the company (XJT) yet until you finish your last checkride in the SIM. Only then do you get assigned your "badge". After that point... you will never be "assigned" to another room-mate again.

Although... many folks will pair up when they come back to HQ for re-current or upgrade training. Hotels are only provided IF you do not live in the base where the training is occuring. So... for example... I commute to IAH, and that's where upgrade training is... so I'll have to spring for a hotel for a month. But... the guy based in EWR or LAX who goes to IAH for upgrade get's a hotel paid for... single occupancy.

Crazy, I must work at the only company that does single occupancy rooms and crew badge from day 1. No wonder we are so expensive (comparatively speaking of course).
 
Absolutely, I just can't imagine my fathers company telling him he is going to share a hotel room with a co-worker.

XJT is a respectable company, which is why it surprises me that they have two people to a room.
 
I could get used to using checks to pay bills again...that doesn't mean I would enjoy the experience :).

Quite frankly... I got more quality study time rooming with my sim partner than if I had gone solo.

But... Wheels... I think you are right... at most legacies and larger majors you don't have roomies in training.

Roommate: "your not a girl, why were you assigned a girls room"
Me: "My lucky day?"

I studied with my sim partner and other classmates too, but we didn't have to sleep in the same room to do that. Sometimes I wonder where airlines will draw the line. I guess that's a price you pay for working in an industry where margins are thin (if positive). We could be the next place to go to double occupancy in the future.
 
I understand... I'm just saying it worked very well for me... and truthfully... no one really questioned the whole room-mate thing while in training. We had much bigger things to worry about and keep our minds busy with. ;)
