When sailors get bored...

FFG= Too closterphobic. I want to be an anonymous figure on the boat. It's the best way to get through cruise. No one knows you, and no one will look for you when you need your quiet alone time.

:yeahthat:

Amen....It was amazing and ironic that whenever you wanted to be alone that some Schmo needed his pc fixed in the dark corners fo the ship. There were many places to get lost. ;)

We had the USS JFK in Boston all weekend and I must say every sailor was exceptionally polite, well groomed and were just pleasant tourists to have!

One thing that sucked about being on a big ship (LHD), especially one built to carry a MEU, was that whenever we hit ports it was still a sausage party in the clubs. :( I remember being on shore patrol in Tarragona, Spain and watching the local girls walk into clubs, see them full of American Sailors and Marines, and then promptly walk right out. It was a weird inverse relationship where on a big ship at sea you could get away from people, but in port on land it seemed like no matter where you went, you couldn't get away from anybody. :insane:

As far as "small boys," I think I'd pass on an FFG, but I always thought those Arleigh Burke DDGs looked cool for a Navy ship. Plus, while the big-deck, flat top ships bowed to Air Department, those small boys were FC country. :yar: :D

That has always been our experience as well during San Francisco's Fleet Week. The City By The Bay celebrates our attachment to the US Navy.

They sure laid out the red carpet for the USS Iowa. (not directed at you SkyCougar)
San Francisco gives battleship the heave-ho

Thanks for clarifying that your comments weren't directed at me Gator. There were a LOT of p*ssed off people in this city because of that! People were calling the radio talk shows and writing editorials to the paper and were livid! But seriously, this city has a long military and nautical history, particularly with the Navy. SF was always my father's favorite port of call. Fleet Week is one of our favorite times of year. Politicians, well we all know that most of them suck.

Screw all those SF leftist wing Democrat scum!:yar: There still pissed that the Navy left in full force. I think Long Beach would be a better spot for the mighty Iowa or San Diego next to the Midway.

That comment tells me all I need to know about you.

That what? That I'm a Republican that despises the views of the leftist lawmakers in the Democratic party in California as well as the right wingers of the Republican party? Yeah that's me!:) I'll refrain from tainting the youtube threads and keep it in the lav.

Let me refrase my previous comment. The SF lawmakers turned down a really good offer by the Navy. The ship is free...$0.00! They are still upset that the Navy left and the property left behind isn't making the city all the money that they thought they would be raking in. There are plenty of other cities that would be more than happy to preserve a piece of history and passing that history on to future generations. They obviously don't care what the citizens want as seen from the objections to the city's vote. SF citizens know how important the Navy was and is to SF. It should have been up to the voters to decide.

I second and third that bored thing. Zero time on ships but quite a bit of time in the other location.

You are so busy and stressed sometimes that you just get crazy and start doing the oddest things to amuse yourself. Made for fun times when we got a shipment of mcdonalds ketchup packets, camo bandanas, tampons and erasers as a care package in MASS quantities. Talk about a funny photo shoot!! haha ....good times I tell you
