Jumpseat in cockpit?!?!

I was wondering if A airline or the pilot on a flight would let me jumpseat in the cockpit for take off?? Thanks every one who answers.
 
you can ask in foreign countries. i went up to a 744 takeoff and landing with cx back in 2003. they were kinda weird about it but eventually said sure why not. greatest experience and rush of my life! i know i sound pathetic but still a very cool thing.
 
You would need an approval from the FAA and the Airline who then would provide you with a special pass to sit in the cockpit jumpseat.
 
You can jumpseat anytime on my flight deck if:


your a 121 crewmember on the CASS system AND fly for an outfit
that is ALPA or TEAMSTERS.


If your not the above, I have to politely decline the invitation.

Not going to happen in the United States at all.

Even Seggy can't ride the jumpseat on my airline because his airline isn't CASS-compliant.

And what would be more humiliating than being denied the jumpseat from someone who doesn't know the difference 'twixt your and you're :o:p

When I was an observer for a series of flights (job related) it required documentation from several agencies and departments, all of which I was required to surrender when finished. Also, this happened only on segments where a captain I was working with was flying.

In other words, without a lot of lead time and approval from a long list of people, a non-crewmember isn't going to jumpseat. For the security-minded, you're definitely not going to be able to walk up out of the blue with credentials in hand. Every time I handed over my papers to the gate agent (with the captain standing beside me), they made a phone call for verification.

That said, it was purdy neat stuff. :)

I'm not a captain so I really don't control the jumpseat, but I'm afraid it might start a lot of hubris that many commuters are going to get caught in the crossfire.

In my personal opinion, the jumpseat should be apolitical. If a guy politely asks to access the jumpseat in order to get home or get to work, if I were captain and he was on the approved list, make yourself comfortable, glad to have ya! :)

Now if it's a scab positioning to fly struck work during a work action, that's another story.
 
I was invited to fly with an Archer - the S model!! HA HA HA HA

Seriously that is the way to do - I would not be surprised if they let you sit in the right seat in cruise either.

Who??? Just kidding - relax a little pal. I've never denied anyone the jumpseat. Just an offhanded remark that probably displays my personal thoughts on the situation - yet my jumpseat is always open to the brothers and sisters out there.

Chris - flaps up, after landing checklist - relax.;)
