Religion of Peace terrorism plot foiled! (Followup to Imams being removed from flt)

Re: Religion of Peace terrorism plot foiled! (Followup to Imams being removed from fl

I love the xenophobia in this country.

I have to agree with the above quote. It's pretty frightening and at the same time revealing how many of you are so anxious to depict Muslims as terrorists. There are as many Christian terrorists as Muslim terrorists in this world. "Religion of Peace terrorism plot foiled"-- that title is ridiculous.

If you have nothing to hide, why would you go out of your way to not raise suspicion? I'm sorry, but if me and 5 of my buddies went to Iran, sat in the terminal and started reciting the Lord's Prayer, do you not think that it would raise suspicion? America needs more Chuck Norris and less flaming hippies who are scared to hurt feelings!

Don't you see the catch 22 situation your describing? If you look like a Muslim (the American idea of a Muslim, i.e. dirty, bearded, diaper on head, dark skin--or is that a Sikh?--who cares, they're babbling in some foreign language) then you are suspicious. If you're aware of the discrimination directed towards Muslims in America and try to avoid attention you're also suspicious. As Bigey said, there are Christians throughout the Middle East. You are obviously prejudiced.

I've seen Christians praying in the terminal before boarding a plane. Next time I should probably tip off the FBI or maybe just go ahead and get it over with--a swift roundhouse kick to the head and beat them senseless before they're able to whip out those toothpicks they've been hiding in their underwear to slaughter the pilots and crew.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but prayers aside, did I read somewhere that everyone switched seats to where they were at all the exits?

True, you can't believe everything the media says. However, I seriously doubt this entire story is fabricated. Look, post 9/11 in this country, everything will be scrutinized, period; and it doesn't matter the complexion or race, as we learned a good lesson with the "British bomber" on the AA flight across the Atlantic.

There are as many Christian terrorists as Muslim terrorists in this world.

And your source for this bit of information is? Do you know how many "terrorists" there are in the world? With a breakdown of their individual religions? Both of these are needed for your comment to have any validity?

Now if it's just your opinion, based on nothing but what you think, why not preface it with the old standard "IMHO"?

If you look like a Muslim (the American idea of a Muslim, i.e. dirty, bearded, diaper on head, dark skin--or is that a Sikh?--who cares, they're babbling in some foreign language) then you are suspicious.

How exactly did you determine what "the American idea..." relating to Muslims? Ask Americans? If so, how many? How did you come to the conclusion of looking like a Muslim makes one suspicious?

Are you not doing the very thing you seem to decry? Stereotyping? Showing prejudice?

Enquiring minds and all that!

By the way, we should consider the source here...the Washington Times is one of the more slanted papers in the country, and the title "How the Imams terrorized an airliner" is kind of BS.

As opposed to the Washington Post which is "fair and balanced" right? Or the New York Times vs the New York Post. One is slanted the other is straight arrow, right? (you pick which is which)

I don't post often and probably should stay out of this, but I am going to weigh in anyway...

It is indeed catch 22, keeping in mind it was Canadian citizens, Sikh immigrants, behind the plot which destroyed AI 182 and killed two CP Air ramp agents in Narita.

It seems to me we are under no greater threat globally today or on 9/12/01 as we were on 9/10/01 or or for decades before. Terror groups have been plotting for decades, they just got a big break that day. It made me absolutely sick to watch Heathrow shut down, and continues to make me sick to see people having to throw away there bottled water or duty free licqour because they have to change planes in a different terminal. Assinine. It is unfortunate fear mongering and a lack of national leadership has lead to an irrational climate of fear.

Everyone knows there are fluid restrictions, most know the LHR threats causing them. Oplan Bojinka came a lot closer and was potentially significantly more devastating, yet people happily got on jets across the Pacific after the plot was foiled, drinking bottled water, completely unaware of the plot, and a test bomb actually detonating and killing a Japanese businessman on a Phillpine 747. Thats how close it was.

The thing is, Phillipine police and American intel professionals silently did their job, and protected us. Flight crews were given the "heads up" and took steps to protect their aircraft and passengers. No need for threat codes flashing across my TV screen, DHS screaming the sky is falling, or for a businessman to go dehydrated trying to get to his sales meeting in Peoria.

America did change after "that fateful day". Today cities shut down due to cartoon characters on overpasses, and it is now newsworthy when someone with a long beard walks into an airport. Today vigilance is synonomous with irrationality and fear.

I'll be the first one to stand up against profiling. QUOTE]

Not I. Profiling saves lives. Ask El Al.

Dont even get me started on that topic...

BUT BESIDES THAT...

I'm going to find the link that said the imams did in fact NOT MOVE their seats. That they had switched with eachother. Meaning, they moved into eachothers seats.

Doesnt seem so suspicious to me. Also, they did not PRAY on the plane, it was in the terminal. And also, the big suspicious was they were saying the word "allah" oh jesus. Time to get freaked out now.

Muslims use the word just as frequently as christians or any other religion do. They use it from getting up to just trying to fix something.

Oh god DARNIT sounds pretty familiar in english.
