CFI pay at ATP

In all seriousness, yes it is true.
ATP previously paid $1000/mth plus a few bonuses for first time checride passes. Their rooms were $200/mth for instructors.

At the beginning of this year, they raised it to a base salary of $1200/mth, lots more bonuses, and pay time for every flight or sim hour ($5/hr I think). Additionally, the cost of the room and board has increased to $300/mth.

Also, keep in mind this is gross salary. You are an independent contractor and pay your own taxes.

It's official, I'm going to ATP:sarcasm: If I could afford it, I would go but I can't imagine being in that much debt and making those student loans. Does anyone else have a hard time living with that much debt?

so out of 1,000 you take home 600....nice

When it was 1,000, you took home 800 (before bonuses) if you lived in the housing.

Now it's 1200 with 900 take home (before bonuses) and more opportunities to make more money. That 300 in housing buys you rent, electric, water - everything except food. That's a steal, in my opinion, especially since you can get 100 hours of multi a month if you want.

Are CFI's at atp really paid as much as it states on their website. Could anyone flight instructing at ATP please respond if this truly is correct?
As much?? Are you kidding me?

Guys... you have to stop thinking of a CFI as a "starter job," or as a "means to an end."

A flight instructor is a professional. A flight instructor deserves more than the dirt schools like this throw at them.

You get 100s of hours of multi time? Come on - that's all the more reason to be paid MORE. Being a multi-engine instructor implies a greater level of knowledge, skill, and responsibility.

Flight schools are USING you. They know it, and you better know it too.

Dream, don't go into debt.

Save, and do this flying thing on your own terms.

I don't know Ian, one of the reasons I'm going to ATP is to (hopefully) get hired as a CFI there. Any FBO would probably pay me the same but I wouldn't get multi time + cheap housing, water, electricity, etc.

It's still crap, dude.

You suck that pay up at ATP to get your multi time.

You suck that Regional pay up to get your jet time and your upgrade.

It goes on and on. You sacrifice and you sacrifice for that next best thing.

I get $35 an hour as a CFI. Not a lot. I gave 4 straight hours of ground today and my brain hurts from all the talking/ teaching I did. That four hours worth of knowledge I imparted was a combined result of years of time and thousands of dollars of training.

We're worth more than that.

In this day of age where multi time is the end all be all of being able to get a regional job, yeah, I guess it's worth it. At 21 some people think they are too good to be a pilot on a Beech 1900.

Sorry man... I'm just having a moment.

I was making less per month and paying more in rent, but I don't have a huge loan payment either.

I don't plan on taking a loan out(or worst-case scenario maybe 10-20k max)but I can understand not going with a 50k loan.

Preach on brother.

Preach on brother.

I don't mean to preach, but I just read about a 21 year old who said they were too good to fly a Beech 1900 and flew off the handle a little.

I also talked for four straight hours off the top of my head today about airspace, regulations, radio procedures, and a whole bunch of other stuff and wondered what that information was actually worth.

And I wondered why the highest paid entry-level airplane flying jobs were freight. No, I didn't wonder why they were the highest paid... I wondered why people don't realize why they are the highest paid.

Hell, I deff. agree with you Chinook, but I am just trying to figure out the best way to go about getting the best training and the most cost effective way. I really would like to know from others what that route is. I appreciate your feedback.
