Vegas to LA commute? LAX domicile

someone has a lead foot. the fastest i have ever made it is about 4 1/2. plus the chp is nothing but garbage and they love to give tickets.

Fastest i've made it was around 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Road WIDE OPEN, did help we left on a wednesday and sunday the other time.

Thank you Radar Detector!!!!

Some basic rules for doing the drive: Slow down by onramps/offramps, cops hide there. Keep it slow within 10 miles of any town/city. Keep in the right lane. Cops go more for the left as they know more people speed since you can pass. Find a bait car. If another car is going faster than you, keep up with him to an extent (about 1/2 mile back) and keep a little under his speed. He'll get ticket first, not you generally.

By reading this you agree to this disclaimer that if you get a ticket and/or accident i'm not at all responsible.

Stay safe! Speed limit is 75 so throw cruise on for 100 and you'll get there in about 2 hours and 30-45 minutes with no stops.

bigey you live in diamond bar? that is about an hour from me. the fastest i think i have ever done that drive it about 4 1/2 hours. its all hit and miss on the baker grade.

the only thing you have to worry about (and the CHP loves doing this)...is when they "pace" you......no indication on a radar detector, and they're usually pretty sneaky, so you can't see them until you sign the ticket.......10 over is very safe on the 15.......I've never known a cop that'll give you a ticket for 10 over...

Wow really?

Yeap, from diamond bar, we hit the 10 and boom, 10 minutes later we're on the 15 and on the way to vegas.

It helps if you avoid all stops if possible. Fill up the night before, and have everything in the car ready. Then boom get in the car, get some good music going and start a conversation. The drive feels actually pretty comfortable and if you just throw on cruise around 100 it's around 2 hours and 45 minutes to get there (from where i live, about 15 miles out from ontario).

Good catch on the pacing thing. I've heard of cops pacing you behind a vehicle behind you. So he gets both of you, and you'll never know.

I guess some of it is luck and some is skill. Not jinxing myself, but we have yet to be stopped.

I don't mean to lecture ya Bigey, but I recomend you slow it down. 100mph is not just a ticket, that is jail time. In CA that is a misdemeanor if they catch ya and if the aviation unit is up your radar detector is useless.

For those that stay closer the speed limit, the drive from L.A. to Vegas is right around 4.5 hours(at best) from downtown and about 3.5(except Fridays or holidays:)) from San Bernadino. I used to do those drives 2-3 times a month when I was a truck driver. I lived in Vegas and worked out of San Bernadino.

Advice taken.

However, are you sure it's jail time? I know it counts for 2 points on your driving record. Its in the same category as reckless driving, but it is not considered the same, unless you were doing stupid stuff at 100.

EDIT: It is not a misdemeanor per se the http://www.california-criminal-defense-lawyers.net/traffic-violations.html website. It's an I - Infraction. Stands for 2 points on driving record.

The aviation unit thing, is similar to pacing. You cant get a ticket directly from what the plane says, it's just something they relay down to the cars so the cop can see if they can catch them in action.

Its pretty interesting when traffic flow is around 90-95. I've seen it before, wonder how a cop would get everyone or if he even would.

bigey if you are traveling at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour the officer is within his legal right to impound your vehicle and take you to jail. most do not because it is a hassle but please slow it down. what does it matter if you get there a few minutes before someone that is driving 75 mph? you get to the room quicker. dont become a red asphalt video. you are young you have all the time in the world. also one more thing. two points is killer when it comes to insurance. stay safe.

I have not heard of anyone getting taken to jail for doing 100+. I have a buddy thats a CHP and hes said yes they can take you to jail, but its not going to happen. If your not doing 85 on the 15 your going to get ran over.

It's attitudes like this that lead to the majority of the 50,000+ traffic deaths every year. There is no argument you can make against this. Speed kills. Granted there are extremely rare cases where doing the speed limit is too slow, but there is no excuse for excessively exceeding it(i.e. 15+mph). I traveled that stretch so many times limited to 62 mph(what my trucking company had limited us to), I can definitely say that is a crock of sh*t. 85 gets you there what, 30 min quicker? Is it worth risking your life over? How many dead people would give those 30 min back to get their life back? How many permanently disabled people would give those time savings back to get back to normal?

I have seen enough accidents caused by excessive speed to last a life time. Please slow down people, life is not a race.

thank you. last summer when i was driving out to new york. i saw a horrific accident on i-40. clearly it was speed related and im sure the people in the vehicles would do anything to get back either their life, limbs, or peace of mind. as polarbear says please slow down. speeding does not make you look cool.

If the road conditions permit however, i dont see too much of a problem. Been on that drive too on a wednesday at the middle of the night and i spotted only a few trucks and a few cars.

Anyways...

I'll slow it down, but i dont think to 70. Much more reasonable speeds around 85.
