Something to consider...

Job security at regionals are laughable at best, hell job security at ANY level of aviation is laughable. But.......

When you are picking regionals to apply to, you should look harder at regionals with more than one codeshare.

Something to ponder.

Story here or what?

I believe that Skywest is quite dependent on Delta as Delta is more than 60% of Skywest's business. The rest lies within United and others.

Comair, Mesaba, ASA, Air Willy, PSA, PDT, American Eagle = slow growth, slow upgrade, TIED TO ONE AIRLINE

Skywest, RAH, Mesa = growth, A LOT quicker upgrade.

Great point.

Unfortunately, I think good work rules and QOL are not mutually exclusive of the number of "daddies" a regional has (I'm not saying that any of the airlines you mentioned are bottom feeders at all, however). Believe me, we're tryin' for more flyin', but I guess not hard enough.

On the other hand, as my pal WheelsUp says, this job is a means to an end... I'd rather sit comfortably on RSV where I am now than face the treatment the Mesa pilot group receives, only to get to the bottom of a major's seniority list. No thanks to the rat race.

There has been quite a bit of cynicism on this site over the age 65 rule. Although I don't have much to say about the issue, I will say this. I don't base my daily mood on seniority, growth, and movement. I base it on the great people I work with and the fact that I'm getting paid right now to take graduate coursework. If one aspect of my professional life is slow, it gives me the opportunity to speed up other facets of my life.

Good point... except... um... what about XJT? ;)

Bob

I want XJT to kick arse with their new brand of flying and get some more contracts with 'mothership' airlines, but if they don't I think it might slow to a sudden stop their in terms of growth.

They are a ? in my opinion, but I wish you guys the BEST of luck. I have a lot of close friends their and wish them the best!

Segster.... keep in mind that for a company that has only contract lift then obviously having deals with more then one carrier is to their benefit. But grouping the wholly owned's in that category doesn't work. Granted, right now, none of them actually have flow through, but (optimistically) the days of single company list are a possibility. Get hired into the RJ and move over to the Boeings and Buses. Realistic? Time will tell.

I'm of the firm belief that an airline ought to do it's own flying. Period.

No 'contracting', no whipsawing for lower rates (which results in concessionary agreements to 'remain competetive'). When you're hired by an airline, you fly their most junior equipment (RJ or Turbo Prop), and bid up from there.

In this decade - yes. However, if you look at the regional world 10 years ago or so then it was a much different situation and being tied to one good carrier was the only way to go.
