What do you think of their Duchess? I was going to get my ME at my airport and they have the same aircraft, the same year, with a GPS for almost $200! It appears it may be a much cheaper option to go down and rent their duchess if I meet their reqs.I am flying here right now. I have about 40 hours in their citabria, and about 5 in their duchess (adding 6 more hours per week). The school is great, the rates are the cheapest in the county, the airplanes are well maintained and the staff is friendly, helpful, and courteous. Nothing I could say negative about the place.
Thanks alot!Sorry for late reply..The duchess is a good plane. It is fairly high time (8000TT) It has had both engines replaced around 800 hrs ago so it runs strong. It has a few little problems that need to be cleared up during the 100hr but nothing abnormal for a flight school plane. The 100hr is in ten hours which will take it down on Monday to get it all taken care of. The rate is $155/hr wet which is cheaper by at least $20/ then anywhere else in the area. The plane has a sandel EHSI and the Garmin 430 but neither of those fly the plane for you so they are just extra goodies to look at. Overall it is an asthetically good looking airplane both in and out and is well maintained. I would reccomend it. Give me about 4 months and I will be your MEI.
What requirements are you talking about meeting? They will not let you solo unless you have around 200TT with about another 50 in the duchess if around 20 of that is dual recieved. Other than that you are cleared to get your ME as long as you are US citizen and have a birth cert. Let me know if you have any other questions I would be glad to help you out.
I got my prvt at grey eagle in Sept. In my experience the planes get a hundred hour every 50 just for safety sake... the 152s at least.. dont know if that applies to the duchess. The rates are great and Mel is awesome. Just wish some people would sign up for the ground instrument class this spring to make it worth thier while.
