Family Kicked off Plane after Girl Throws Temper Tantrum

I don't necessarily think it was a 'boot' for an out of control child, it's that the other 130 passengers paid for an on-time departure. Now if you're at departure time and one of the passengers is holding up your final safety checks and doesn't look like they're going to be in compliance for an inordinate amount of time, how long do you wait?

15 minutes?

30 minutes?

What about the other passengers that are being inconvenienced, delayed and perhaps even bothered by the kid crawling under and over the seat?

Question questions!

It's even a 'story' out here on the west coast. People get the boot all the darned time.

Wait till that kid is 15 and tells her folks she is going to take the family ride for the night:yup:. Do they have a rude awakening coming.:)

:rotfl: Duct tape is a man's best friend.

I hear they're trying to outlaw spanking in some states. I'll reserve comment on that one. What else would have calmed the girl down? I'd love to hear suggestions.

And who took the blame? Not the girl...the parents. "Everybody out!!"

Sleeping pills in the kids bottle ... oh wait, that's been done.

Been on both sides of that one-worst flight I ever took was when my son was ~8mo old- CLE to PHX, with a nice 45 minute hold on the way home. When I used to travel for business, inevitably there was a kicker and screamer somewhere on the plane, usually directly behind me.
Not to start a parenting skills argument, but I've had a lot of moments in the past 7 years where it was kind of like deja vu, only this time, the crappy parent with the devil kid is ME. AAAGGHHH. Fortunately most of those moments are at home, and the outside world thinks we have angelic, 'role-model' type kids. Age 3 was possibly the worst time with my son, like 'terrible twos' only bigger, stronger, faster.
Kids are not their normal selves when traveling, and sometimes what we see at the airport is far from normal (ask me how I know). Sometimes the best thing is just the good old time out, which is just what Airtran gave her. I'm pretty hesitant to spank my kids in public, even when they need one- you never know when some whacko will call the cops on you for 'abuse'.
Obviously Airtran did the right thing giving fifteen minutes (!) to get their •! in order before giving them the boot, plus giving very generous compensation. Refund + free tickets= heck yes we'll fly you again! Dump the kid at grandma's, we're going on VACATION!!

Reasons GA flying is better:
-No security to tempt smarty pants 7 year olds to ask loudly "hey dad, did you remember your bomb?!" after seeing the signs saying not to joke about weapons, bombs, etc.
-Lots of noise & vibration muffles complaining, and usually knocks 'em out quickly. For best results, do not connect mic jacks on headsets or select 'crew' on intercom.
-Adjustable descent rates reduce ears popping-depends who you're talking to or where you're going though.
-If it gets really bad, climb

of course! it's the parents jobs to teach the girl proper manners and behavior. would you expect different?

Nope. I totally agree, which is why this "wait a little longer to calm down the child" makes no sense. We're already 15 minutes late.

Sleeping pills in the kids bottle ... oh wait, that's been done.

:rotfl: How about rum in the bottle....wait...that's an old unmentionable tradition in some cultures. :)

I flew JFK to London with my parents when I was 7. Apparently I was very busy on the outbound because I flew the London-JFK return plied with vodka. My parents had certianly had enough of my behavior and culturally, the vodka was OK with my mom. I am happy to say I have never flown drunk again! Manners and self control are a daily exercise for all of us, the younger we get that, the better. Some parents are just better teachers than others. And yes, they should have gotten that "time-out".

Man, I'll tell ya, nothing like a good swat on the the rear end from time to time to get a kid's attention. Nothin overboard, just one good stinger.I got them on occasion and used the same on my kids.

Too bad corporal punishment is outlawed in schools. I spent a few hours in the vice-principal's office just knowing what I had coming.

It's discipline some kids never get. They figure, " you can't touch me, so eff you."

Just heard on the news that Airtran gave in :(

Refunded trip ticket cost
Provided Travel home the next day
Gave Free Roundtrip tickets to family

guess I know how to get free tickets now!

The Worst thing about this, is that AirTran refunded their airfares and flew them out the next day. Frell that, charge them for 2 trips !!!
