For those of you guys that have, how do you log flight sim time in airline training? Obviously you can log it as flight sim, but can it can its count towards total time, multi engine land, and instrument time as well?

I keep it completely seperate from all of my times.

The best way to do it is just to log it as 'sim' time. If someone wants total time (not flight time) you can add you flight and sim to get 'total time'. Do not log 'dual received', 'multi-engine', 'instrument', etc.

If you are actually in an airline training class, logging the time won't hurt, but you probably don't need it much anyway.

I haven't put any sim time in my logbook since going to the airlines. Not really needed anymore. They have all the required docs for the FAA on file.

And no, it cannot count toward TT or Multi time. Nor can you 'double count' it as hood time either for logbook purposes.

The only sim time I've logged was the session that resulted in my ATP and type rating. I'll likely do the same for any future type ratings, but that will be it. It is mainly just for the record of it.

From a 61,51 standpoint, it may be logged, as appropriate, as sim time, simulated instrument time, and instructiion received time (you'll find it in the reg).

But since it is never any form of =flight= time, it does not go into an column that reflects flight time. So it's not, for example, PIC time or total flight time.

Because it is not flight time, many pilots (including some who have already posted inthis thread) only list it in its own column, reserving, for example "trainign received" for "=flight= training received" and "simulated instrument" for "simulated instrument in flight." Some also think doing this makes running 8710 totals (which separate flight from sim time) easier.

It's probably more important that you choose a method and use it consistently than which one you choose.

How would you log sim time, if you were type rated and conducting instruction in a level D sim.

I'm not sure if many people even bother with logging flight simulator (not training device or flight sim the game) time. I know I don't.
