When to log an approach

I ask this question of my fellow freight dogs but I reckon anyone can chime in. When do log an approach in your book? Many times I break out well before mins do you log it? I have generally been following this rule; if I am IMC inside the FAF then I log it as an approach. Just wondering what the rest of you do. Are you AMFers enjoying the Lovely weather we had in SLC today!?!

The FAA has the stance of logging approaches for currency, the approach must be flown in its entirety to the DA/MDA in either actual or simulated instrument conditions.

The kicker here is there is no real definition for "simulated" instrument conditions.

I'm 90% sure the FAA had that stance but has since changed it to the whole in IMC after the FAF. I could be wrong though, it happened once.

I do the same as you, only log an approach if it's IMC inside the FAF.

All the fun stopped before most of us got there, I think. I got in on a visual around 1930 or so.

I didn't particularly enjoy my 50 different microvectors, being turned 105 deg. off course for "spacing" and cruising along in slow flight courtesy of SLC approach. Especially with the turbulence coming down the Bearr 4, I haven't gotten beat up that continuously in awhile.

How are you liking the new gig? Have you been over at UPS every morning? Which run?

Hey ESF
I have been at th ups ramp most mornings. I'm the tall bearded ugly guy. I do salmon or sun valley now that peak is over or I run backup for whatever you guys can take. I came into slc yesterday morning after going to IDA. Got vectored for ILS 34r then just abeam the airport I get "turn left heading 090 Im gonna keep tou in a box herre tell we find you a spot?" So I am in a vector hold over the airport at 12000 for about 15 min. I am packing on the rime and I make control aware of this fact to which I am told another 15 minutes. I do that 15 and ask again "another 15 maybe 20 could be 25" At this point I am picking up more Ice than I can carry. Provo is reporting better than 5 and 5 so I diverted to provo then they had a gound stop in slc and my "short day" didn't end until 1700.

i'm sitting in IDA right now. Hopefully leaving in about an hour. See you On monday I suppose. I am back up mon tues then SUN Valley on wed thurs fri then Ida on sat again.

Were you the one who flew the PA31 into IDA last week with those two big boxes? If so, I was the AMF'er who chatted with you a bit, although no longer based in SLC.
