Going to interview at ATP(Arlington)

Well I just gave my soul to Sallie Mae. I financed half of the ACPP and will pay the other half in cash. I go for my interview on Jan. 11th. I have searched but i'm kind of lost on what exactly i'll be asked during this. Also in the sim are they going to want me to know Multi operations? All I have flown is a Cessna 172. Cross your fingers for me I need the luck

Don't worry about it too much. It'd be nice if you knew a little about multi-engine aerodynamics and Vmc. I'm not sure if they send out the books before you do the interview, but if they do read the first 16 pages of the supplement. If not, just read a little about it on the net.

It's basically just a cursory test to make sure you are trainable.

If you've got the financing, you don't have to know jack. Sign the check and you're in.
 
an interview to spend $40K+ and become a student. Hum... sounds like it is going to be tough. I would pay for their interview prep course to make sure you pass. It only cost $999. ;)

Hey man,

I just had my interview at arlington. It was a piece of cake. In the sim, all you do is climb, turn, decend, and land... thats it. As for the little exam they give, its nothing to worry about. Just study your basic private pilot info and you'll be good.
 
Thanks guys. I am only .1 hobbs time short on the cross country time for the prereqs. So I will have to rent a plane on a short cross country here shortly. As in basic PPL stuff do you meen like airspace, minimums, weather and other stuff like that? I'm sure i'll still be way over prepared. This is my second shot at flight school so i'm hopeing things go smoothly. Last time I did this my school shut down 3 flights before my instrument check ride. And my old school is the reason Key bank dosn't offer a loan anymore for flight school students. I hope my time at ATP will go smoothly and I can get this knocked out. Also dose anyone know how to get a original document on passing an instrument and CFII written? Do I have to get a hold of Laser Grade?(Thats who I took it with) or will ATP do it for me? Just wondering. Thanks again
 
Well I now hold a First class medical...Now I play the waiting game :insane: . One week from today I will know...Thanks agian to all of you out there...I'll keep you posted

No one should really go into it with that attitude...

The fee is mostly for the SIM time... if fact you can pay a higher fee if you want and have the interview in the Seminole itself. Again... the fees are to cover the equipment cost.

Regardless... don't assume that because you have financing and a fee for an interview that you will be recommended into the program. I have personally not recommended a few folks that I've interviewed.

A search on here will find that there have been other instructors who also have not recommended folks for the program due to their attitude and/or trainability concerns.

I would say that probably 90%+ do get an initial recommendation by the interviewing instructor, another 5% are asked to go and get further instruction and come back in 3-6 months, and the last 5%... well... they are the other 5%. ;)

Anyway... go into it with a great attitude, an open mind, and also with the intention of interviewing them as well. You won't go wrong.

Thanks Capt. Bob. I will be going there to interview them as much as they interview me. I need to make sure this is going to be the right choice of school for me as well as my career. I have been studying non stop as I got my PPL over a year ago, but most of it is just coming right back to me. I do fly at least 2 hours a month to keep myself up to date and study once a week in the meentime. As the AOPA says "A good pilot is always learning". I asked another question on the BWG visit post and I havn't had any responces. I was wondering if I interview this month if I could start next month. Around the end of Feb. Time for me is a nessesity. My son will turn 1 on May 11th so I want to be there for that. Also When James calls to tell you if your accepted or not dose he give you an oral over the phone and then let you know? Well i'll be heading down to Big D on the 11th. Wish me luck

James will get in touch with you and quiz you on some things. He asked me a couple of fuel system questions about the C-172, and also another airspace question (basically if you missed any questions at the interview, he'll cover them).

He will also ask when you want to start. There are only so many "slots" available per month to start the program. If there is one available, you then pay the $1500 deposit and you're in.

I'm still saving for the Deposit myself :insane:

Pilotkid hit the nail on the head...

They will give you a quick last minute review of some basic PPL questions and a question or two about the systems of your most recent aircraft.

Then... it's about scheduleing.

As long a slot is available you'll have no problem getting it... however... give youself a decent amount of time to study before day one. Things like Seminole systems & emergency checklists, along with having at least 2-3 of your writtens complete will give you a great headstart.

I know you want to be there for your boy's 1st birthday (Congrats, by the way!!)... But, it really shouldn't be an issue of getting the time off of the program to make sure you are home for that... so don't stress it.

Let me know when you hit the DFW area and we'll see if we can do lunch or something... I live just down the highway from GKY.

Thanks agian to you two. You have been a lot of help. My interview is at 1pm and i'm driving from Oklahoma City down there. I've been going over things and i'm really surprised how much stuff I remember, just came back to me. Thats good to hear that I can take a day off for my sons birthday. That was something that was stressing me out a little. I'll let you guys know how it went on Thursday and then agian when james calls. How do you get the deposit to them to reserve a date? Just mail a check? haha. Or will I have to drive down to Dallas agian and hand it to them? Also here is a dumb question. How would I go about getting my commercial written, CFI and FOI done? Should I just buy the gliem book and study then go take em? Also I have taken my Insturment and CFII writtens but that was a year ago, I know two years hasn't past but since my old school just shut down, I don't have any way to get ahold of the originals. Could I just call Laser Grade and ask them to send them to ATP? Thanks agian and Congrats to you also Bob. Childeren are amazing!

Someone from this forum recommended me to use the Gleims and/or King’s preps for all the required written test for ACPP.

I’ll be going for my Arlington interview in mid February. If all goes well, my training will start early July of this year. Good luck on your interview.

Well I had my interview. It went pretty well as far as I know. I did overstudy for it and since i've had my licence for almost 2 years now I kind of had a couple brain farts on some small stuff. I had an instructor that had never done an interview before and she was very vague on her questions, also she asked some things that I had not studied for and had long forgoten. I can only hope that when they call me from jacksonville i'm prepared to answer any questions they have to ask me. The facilities at Arlington are very nice. The aircraft are also. The sim was EXTREAMLY sensitive and I even had an engine fail on me. I havn't ever flow a multi so it was a total learning process. I do hand it to the instructor that did my interview though. She was very tourough and covered everything. She even tought me about VMC and basic multi aero dynamics before I took the written portion. I did miss 4 questions on the written. 1 of them was a multi question. So I will let you know when Jax calls me and tell you how it goes. The chief pilot there was very good. He gave me his card and showed me around. He also told me that if I had a problem in the interview I could still attend the school but I would need to go thru a private pilot ground school for 3 weeks. Blah. I'm not to happy about that as all I would need is just about a week refresher I think. I will let everyone know how it goes. Thanks agian to all of you.
 
Well I got a call from James today. I am accepted! I will be starting on the 19th of Feb. Thanks agian to all you guys. I will keep you updated on how everything goes. As for now, I have to finda storage facilitie for all my crap and help get my wife moved closer to her parents. Thanks agian:nana2:
