New headset ...

When I switched to the Citation I got a pair of those and a pair of the HMEC-45KA at the same time. I kept the 45's and sold off the 25's. The 45 are more of an open ear desing like some of the Telex's, but includes ANR. I thought that the 25's were really nice, but the full ear cup design had a little more clamping pressure than I wanted. I wouldn't try to steer you away from the 25's, but would suggest you try some out before buying to make sure they are comfortable for you.

I bought a set of soft ear pads for the 45's (look like the ear cups on the 25), but didn't even use them for the first year. I've just put them on in the last month and have been trying them out because this is the time of year when we do the longer Michigan-Florida trips on a regular basis, and the extra padding might help with comfort. Don't know yet, just trying them out. The standard open ear design are pretty darn comfortable because they are much wider than the Telex style and distribute the pressure better.

If cost is an issue (duh) I would strongly suggest you look at buying a factory refurbished set of Sennheiser from CMW Aviation. Great prices, and I had really good response working with him. Good customer service. Here's the links:

Though originally designed for turbo props, I have used the HMEC-25 KA in single engines and been very happy. Great headset. Originally only had a two year warranty, but think it comes new with 5 year now.

Look into the Bose Quiet Comfort 2/UflyMike combo -- a few friends have raved about it in the CRJ.

Thanks. I currently wear David Clark 10-60s (Passive) there aint nothing out there with more clamping pressure ... trust me. :)

I fly a Turbo Prop and want to go to something lighter (6+ hour fliying days) and ANR. That's why he 25's caught my eye.

As far as Bose goes ... I just have something against paying a grand for a headset (namely I can't swing it even if I didn't have an issue with the cost in the first place).

Earplugs and telex 750's work for me, I'm sure the -25's will be about the same...nice and comfy if you don't mind something in your ear all the time...

The Bose QC2/UFly setup will run you about $500, not the grand of the Bose X. I've checked it out with captains who wear it, and it's pretty nice. It should work in the Bro, but I'm not sure. Had I not just been given a Bose X, I was going to buy this setup.

I just switched to the Lightspeed Mach 1's in the ERJ 145 and I am amazed....i was getting headaches from the old DC's clampin my skull when i had my shades on...it was time for a change....im amazed at these things, which is saying something as the Embraer cockpit is extremely loud at altitude...i recomend them!
