Sorry for the slew of questions here guys!

- Amount of clothing: how much clothing did you bring to initial?
- Checking bags while traveling in pos. space: if you don't make it, do your bags? I fly in the night before and feel like I'll be bring enough stuff to merit a checked bag...

Thank you!
J.

More than likely, your bags will make it even if you don't. If you're travelling pos space, your odds are good you'll get there, though.

How long is initial? Does the hotel they put you up in have a laundry facility or are you gonna have to hoof it to one that eats coins?

five days of class, five biz casual shirts, two dockers, socks, four boxers, one thong and clean behind your ears! :)

It depends on the airline and the situation. Sometimes they'll hold your bags if you don't make the flight, other times your bags will go without you. It kinda depends so plan accordingly and try not to check a bag.

Oh follow-up question!

They want me to bring a flight case with no wheels... any reason for the lack of wheels? Just curious. If I carry on everything, I'm going to have to figure out how to manage that case, my laptop bag (I wouldn't consider this bag a "personal item," and clothing. Does that sound plausible?

Thanks Doug and Kell - you guys are awesome. Just wish I could've met the Taylors in SDL when I lived there... kinda miss the place too, but maybe one day I can return.

Wait until you need a flight case to get one... in the meantime just use a nice backpack to carry your LOADS of books and training materials... your arm will thank you and it won't be 3 inches longer than the other one by the end of training.

It will also give you a chance to see what other people are using for cases. Ask to take a look at them... snoop around in them so you can determine the best case for you.

I think I bought my case the last week of systems class... just before Full Sim training. If they "require" you to have the case earlier (which I doubt) then get a good quality case and buy one of those cheapy expandable rolling thingamabob's that you can strap your case to and roll it around with you from your car to the training center, classroom to classroom, car to hotel room, etc...

AWAC wants you to have a flight case with no wheels because those are the only ones that will fit in the CRJ (right next to the seat). As for ordering it...my entire class had one on day one, they tell you to bring one to class so why not bring one? I checked a bag, and had another smaller bag as well when I went to training. Some people showed up with three bags. LEAVE A TON of room---you'll fill a flight case plus some space in some of your bags.

Most people got their flight cases from stopoverstore.com in my class....Good luck.

When I went to training at Piedmont I carried everything on. A guy in my class made it to training but his checked bag didn't show up for 2 days and he was washing his underwear in the hotel room sink! I packed 2 pairs of dockers 5 shirts and 5 days worth of underwear and 1 pair of jeans. I checked ahead and the hotel had laundry facilities so I recycled each week. My SIM partner and I wore a tie for the check ride, most of the other guys in my class didn't.

You'll learn to pack light once you're on the line. For a 3 day trip I wore only one pair of pants and packed 2 shirts. Problem was being on reserve sometimes that 3 day trip turned into 5...then I was looking for a laundry room at the hotel.

Damn, I'm starting to miss it.

There ya go. One of the guys in my class bought one with wheels. He got a surprise when he got to the sim, had to buy another one.

No worries C150. You are positive space which means you have a confirmed ticket so don't be afraid to check the luggage. I like to pack 1.5-2 weeks worth of clothes because I hate doing laundry but to each his own.

I brought as much as I could fit in a large checked bag. I think I brought around 3 pairs of dockers type nice dress pants (for class) as well as semi-nice polo shirts. Bring your suit because I believe they have you wear your suit to the first day of class to take a class photo, but you might wanna call about that.

Also bring a nice pair of shoes and some tennis shoes and jeans to relax in. If you're going to Wisconsin make sure you bring some heavy winter clothes too - it'll be cold up there!!!

I would bring enough to fill a large checked bag, but that's just me. Not only are you positive space, but I believe you are classified as a "must ride", and as such can't get bumped. The only way you won't get there is if the flight cancels, and they'll understand ;). There was a guy in my class that had that happen to him and he just got there on the first day of class.

You probably won't need a flight case day 1. Bring a backpack or something (I acutally bought a cheapo carry-on with wheels before I left, much easier to roll my books around then carry them on my back). Don't rush into any sort of puchase for your flight case.

People were probably buying those catalog cases at Office max that come with wheels and they won't fit in the RJ cockpit. That's probably just an FYI.

I'm not sure what's around the hotel where you're staying, but they like to put people at places that have a grocery store nearby. You can buy pretty much anything you might need, such as detergent and dryer sheets to do your laundry. My class put together a "care package" for the next class made up of all our left over stuff - I personally put in detergent, dryer sheets, dry food, etc. You might find one of those care packs there.

Who are you flying on to get there, BTW? Might make a difference.

I have no idea!

It's okay, I'll shoot an email to HR and see what's up! Go eat a double-double for me or a Chipotle -- that's what I miss most about SDL. That and the wings down at Baseline Sports Grill in Tempe. Man, I'm hungry.

In-N-Out is the bomb, Chipotle is great but their salsa is unquestionably lame! :)

Yeah I know!!!!!!! I'd seriously pay a lot for one right now though. Vegas had both establishments as well -- I wish I could make it to NJC this year but it'd be cutting it way close to indoc (I think).

what are your flight #'s, where are you leaving from going to?

ITH - staff travel hasn't called me yet with arrangements... letter said they would when they have them. ITH operates Colgan/Piedmont/AWAC, but only the last two service PHL.
