I fly for an air ambulance operation here in Charlotte. It's the rare exception that we're not home every night/day. The middle of the night flying can wear on you sometimes, but overall it's a pretty good gig. We've got a lot of guys that are making a career of it purely because they're home nearly every night. So that's an option (and a rarely mentioned one too, may I add).

I'm gone 12 nights out of 28. That's really a pretty good deal compared to most. I could be home every night if I stayed as an F/O forever, at least until the run went away, but it just isn't worth it. It gets boring doing the same thing over and over, even if you can be home every night. I couldn't do it and finally decided to upgrade. Though I'm gone more, I actually work less, and I make a good bit more than I did as an F/O.

There are smaller freight companies where, if you lived in the right place, you could be home every night. You'd have to get up so early in the morning to go to work I don't think it would be worth it. Those are great jobs for a while but you'd die at 45 if you did it all the time....

Ryanair pilots in Europe have no layovers. I think Easyjet are the same. As long as home is where your base is then you are home every night.

As an instructor at my current company I'm gone an average of 5 nights per month. I mostly do day turns to Jeddah, Cairo, Istanbul, Kuwait, and Karachi. I could probably be home more, but I do like to get out every now and again so I bid for a few overnights per month.
