My instructor got burned by Air Desert Pacific

My flight instructor is a foreigner, a few months back he made a deposit with Air Desert Pacific (he wanted to get his ME and MEI addon). It seems they went out of business, he was never informed about it. I am to ASSume that he's pretty much screwed for getting his deposit back? He tried emailing, tried calling, with no success. Anyone ever deal with these people, or would know how to get in contact with them? Hate to see his hard earned CFI money get pissed away like that.

If he paid via credit card, he can simply dispute the charge.

Don't make deposits via cash... bad news.

Agreed...I got burned outa $8k. I put down a deposit for my IFR rating. The FBO I went to was taking deposits right up until the last day they were open for business.

Then they closed suddenly, locking the doors leaving no explanation just a sign on the door that they had filed bankruptcy...sickning!

Who was your instructor? You don't have to post it here, you can send me a pm. I was an instructor at ADP when the doors closed. He has options, especially since the company is in bankruptcy proceedings. Send me a pm, you prob know who i am, lol.

Thanks all, he did pay by credit card, not sure how disputing works in Japan, but dingo is helping him out.

thanks again all

I think bankrupcy rules should be made harsher. I see so many cases of companies/people taking money from customers despite knowing that they will be filing for bankrupcy. Maybe they should have some rule that any money taken within the last X period of time must be returned immediately before going to bankrupcy court to settle the rest.

Max sounds like the same owners running that school ran ATA in Orlando also. At least same type of business practices.

Here is the BK info that i found on this site earlier. I called the court and the case is still open/not resolved. Doesn't look like filing a petition with the court will help. I'd go with the credit card company first, and let them duke it out with ADP. Depending on how ADP was set up as a corporation, you may be able to go after some of the owners personal assets, but i'm no lawyer. Good luck

one of my buddies instructed at a school that folded and the owner filed chapter 7 ( i think thats what chap. it was).

Anyway this guy made like a dozen or more people lose a TON of money, my friend had at least a few thousand on account and there is NO WAY for him to get it back according to some people he talked to.

Hi,
I found this site while trying to find out why ADP's phone was dissconnected.
I was contacted by Robert a while ago, and was told that
someone misscalculated my block rate, and with about $500 on
the books, he needed an additional $350.
No problem, I'm going to fly it off anyway.
The weekend after I paid a plane wasn't available, because ADP was
moving. I wasn't told that before, not cool!!!

According to the timeline, they were solicition more money after
filing. This was not an accounts receivable and beyond unethical
seems criminal.

My business will scare me from time to time, but it is never an
excuse to steal. I hope he gets the most out the money
he's stolen because he has the rest of his shallow life to live
with his actions during his defining moment.

just venting, ray
