Carpal Tunnel,Tendonitis or maybe Gout?

Okay so every morning for several months now I can't make a fist in both my hands. It normally takes between an hour or two after getting out of bed to be able to complete making a fist without the sharp shooting pain in my wrist.

I originally thought that maybe it might be carpal tunnel or tendonitis as I have worked in call centers for years. My current job at Honeywell involves alot of wrist activity movement as well.

After reading my latest CBC read out and my high levels of uric acid in my blood it makes me wonder if it is really either of the two and maybe not Gout!

During the day I have no pain in my wrist and can easily make a fist. It just seems that sometime between falling asleep something in both my wrist seize up and by morning I can't make a strong hard fist without shooting sharp pain in both of my wrist (if I make a fist with both hands).

Whats up doc?

High serum uric acid does not equal gout. Gout also does not go away during the day.

I would suggest you have your PCP examine your wrists on your next visit.

don't self diagnose max!

I used to think i had carpal tunnel too (i'm a reformed hypocondriac) until one doc i went to (i sought out 3 separate opinions before i would agree to any surgery) said "it's just overuse, here's some naprosyn, wear wrist braces at night and put your hands above your head, on your pillow, as you sleep (blood drains from them to your heart which lowers inflammation)...and then he told me to buy over the counter anti-inflammatories when it acts up or refill the naprosyn. 10 years later, i'm thanking that doctor for telling me something that didn't require surgery. my hands do get overly tired (about 3 times a year), I type on the keyboard 24/7...some days, it does get harder to make a "strong" fist (I can still grip a hairbrush pretty good even when it's hurting) but nothing like what you say your experiencing...but i would really start drinking lots more water i think and try sleeping with your wrists above your head at night... see if that doesn't somehow make a difference in the morning.

another idea, until you go to the doc, is to hold off on drinking too much milk, eating cheese cuz it could be calcium buildup on your wrists - i've had that before along with at the base of the ankle (spurs). from what i remember, it disappears over time when you add more water and take in less dairy.

I definately don't self diagnose any longer Kristie. More especially after this incident!!!

That webmd.com symptom checker is scary. Earlier this summer I had a 103 degree fever sore throat and night sweats and all my glads in my neck under my arms and in my groin were swollen.

The symptom checker said that I prolly had HIV,Mono,CMV or hepatitis. I was completly FREAKED because I am a huge hypochondriac and I knew it wasn't HIV cause I'm monogamous and keep it wrapped up. So I figured that I might have Mono.

I went to the ER and after hours of waiting finally saw the DR. He looked at the chart and asked me why I thought I had mono. I told him webmd. He and the nurses laughed and he said that he hates that site as it only causes panic. He told me "NEVER SELF DIAGNOSE". He says it never does any good and just causes stress and worry on part of the patient.

I have since lived by that motto. Oh and I just had a really, really bad bacterial infection!

BTW, It was really hard not to make a wise crack about this. :)

I hope you find a cure to your problem, doesn't sound too enjoyable to me.
