King Air 200 A/C system

hope somebody might have some higher understanding of the air conditioning system for a B200. we were trying to get the A/C truned on while on the ground with no engine running...but me and the cap pretty much have the same understanding that that isn't possible. only thing is that one of the older guys at the company insists it is possible to hook up a GPU and power the A/C. sooooo, if anybody has anything to say about it we'd really appreciate any input. thanks

I thought most King Airs ran the AC off the right engine, but I think some of the older ones had electric AC in the nose, so they could run off a GPU.

The B100's I have flown had the electric AC in the nose. We would hook a GPU up as batteries didn't have enough juice to run it for more than a minute or 2. Had one catch fire one tme too.

Factory Air?

You can get the fans running but NO - no AC. The compressor (unless it is a JB Air after factory installation) runs off the right engine accessory drive.

We had an old window unit AC on a cart with a long tube. We used to stuff the tube in the cabin door and let it cool off the plane.

Worked pretty good.

thanx for the replies. you pretty much said exactly what we were talking about...can't run the ac unless right engine is running. for some reason one of the old skool pilots at work insisted you could do it with a GPU, but i'm sure he has it confused with an older kingair he used to fly or something.

Well it doesn't have to be an old King Air - we had a brand new C90B that had an electric AC on it - we could plug in a GPU and cool down the airplane. More than once I had to take people out to the plane to show them since they didn't believe me. I don't have as much time in a 200 but I don't recall an electric AC being an option.

It's an option.

You can have the JB Air (which is electric) installed at the factory or as an after mod.
